In a recent interview with ComicBook, Sam Witwer shared his thoughts regarding fan reactions to interactions between Maul and Devon Izara, former Jedi Padawan.
Sam Witwer Addresses Fan Speculation

Throughout Maul – Shadow Lord, Devon repeatedly comes face-to-face with Maul and struggles to remain committed to the light side with her master, Eeko-Dio Daki, as she reconciles the fact that she and Maul have a common enemy: The Empire.
Sam Witwer, the voice of Maul, found it amusing that fans are complaining that we haven’t seen Maul train an apprentice yet. He notes that fans are seeing it right now, starting early in the show. “He’s training [Devon], whether she likes it or not.”
Witwer said that there is a new lesson with every interaction between Devon and Maul. “Does she succeed or fail at that lesson? I love that aspect of it.” To him, the way Maul is actively shaping an apprentice – whether that apprentice approves or not – is a “very dark and scary way of looking at it.”
Maul – Shadow Lord

Dave Filoni said that Maul – Shadow Lord draws from previously unexplored periods in Maul’s history and reflects ideas he and George Lucas had discussed for the character after Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The show has remained one of the highest rated Star Wars productions to date.
The final two episodes will be released on Disney+ next week:
- May 4, 2026
- Chapter 9: Strange Allies
- Chapter 10: Finale
The show has also been confirmed to have a second season, so Maul’s story will continue.
