The “Eighth Voyage of Sindbad” was a popular live-action stunt show at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. It closed permanently in 2018 but the 1,700-seat theater has gone untouched until now. It’s currently being torn down.

Significant deconstruction can be seen in the above image, where a massive hole has been made in the side of the structure. A pile of twisted metal wreckage and debris can be seen on the right, as the facade and actual building structural elements are being torn down.

Around the side of the theater, themed elements have been torn down from archways to make space for construction vehicles.

The interior of the theater appears to be gutted. The sets that were still standing in 2025 are likely gone now.

Tree clearing in Lost Continent began last fall after Universal Orlando Resort confirmed upcoming “construction activity” in the land. Universal said this work was to “ensure the area is ready for any future developments.”

“The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad” closed permanently in 2018 but the theater and sets stayed standing in full view of guests. Poseidon’s Fury closed permanently in early 2023. Construction walls have gone up and down at the walkthrough attraction’s exit.

Universal has not announced what land or attractions might replace Lost Continent.

Lost Continent was once twice its current size. In 2010, it was partially taken over by The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Its former coasters, Dueling Dragons and Flying Unicorn, were turned into Dragon Challenge and Flight of the Hippogriff, respectively. Dragon Challenge closed permanently in 2017 and was replaced by Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.
