Universal Studios Hollywood To Use Double-Sided Lockers For First Time at Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift

A first for Universal Studios Hollywood, the new roller coaster will use double-sided lockers for guests to store their items.

The new Fast & Furious roller coaster will be the first ride at Universal Studios Hollywood to require riders to pass through metal detectors and use double-sided lockers to store loose items, according to the Orange County Register. These lockers are similar to the ones used at the Universal Orlando Resort for rides like Jurassic World VelociCoaster and Stardust Racers.

Universal Creative Vice President Jon Corfino told the outlet that “safety is paramount,” as Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will hit a top speed of 72 mph – the fastest coaster at any Universal theme park – while having four inversions along a 4,100-foot-long track.

The color-coded lockers, located in the middle of the queue, will use the barcode on your admission ticket or annual pass to lock and unlock the two-sided compartments. Riders with digital passes or tickets on their smartphone will need to ask a ride attendant for a paper barcode to use.

The double-sided lockers are designed to save time and minimize congestion, as riders leave their loose items in the lockers before passing through the metal detectors, then pick up their items when they exit after riding the coaster.

Today, Universal apologized for incorrectly publishing that the ride’s opening date would be June 26. Though the date may be incorrect, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is certainly close to opening at Universal Studios Hollywood, as Universal has already started testing the attraction with human riders.

Another version of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is currently under construction in Universal Studios Florida. It replaces Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which closed in August 2025.
