A fire broke out beneath one of Six Flags Magic Mountain’s most intense roller coasters, sending flames and smoke into the air near X2.
Six Flags Coaster Nearly Engulfed in Flames

Firefighters responded to Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California, on Thursday, June 11, after a brush fire ignited beneath X2, one of the park’s signature extreme coasters.
Video reporting from CBS LA showed flames burning near the coaster, with smoke rising from the area around the attraction.
Footage from the scene showed several palm trees on fire beneath the ride structure, with flames spreading into nearby brush and trees. The coaster structure itself was seemingly affected.
The blaze ultimately burned about half an acre before firefighters brought it under control. Crews remained on site afterward to watch for any lingering hot spots.
X2 and nearby Viper coaster were reportedly closed as a precaution while firefighters worked in the area. Both attractions reopened later the same day after the fire was extinguished.
No evacuations were ordered, and there were no reported injuries to park guests or firefighters. Six Flags also said there was no structural damage from the fire, and the park remained open and operating on its regular schedule.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. There was some speculation that on-ride fire effects may have been connected, but the area of the blaze is relatively far from the flamethrowers in question.
X2 – Six Flags Magic Mountain

X2 is one of Six Flags Magic Mountain’s banner thrill rides. The coaster is known for its 360-degree rotating seats, head-first drops, raven turns, and sensory effects, including the aforementioned flamethrowers.
The incident came just days after Six Flags Magic Mountain debuted its reimagined Looney Tunes Land, which replaced the former Bugs Bunny World area of the park.
