“I Knew It, I Knew You,” Taylor Swift’s new song for Toy Story 5, is out now. The track, which returns to Swift’s country roots, was announced a few days ago after Pixar shared several teasers about the collaboration.

For the song’s release, Swift shared video of her young self in a cowgirl outfit. She said, “Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time. Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a @toystory kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond.”
“Thank you to the brilliant Andrew Stanton for imagining me for this, all those years ago when you wrote this newest film. Thank you to the incomparable @randynewmanofficial for the gorgeous sonic tapestry of songs and scores you’ve meticulously woven over the years. You created the Toy Story musical world, and we are lucky to get to live in it.”
“By we, I mean myself and my pal @jackantonoff. We wrote this with so much adoration for these characters that made us laugh and helped us learn lessons and think outside the backyard all throughout our childhoods. “I Knew It, I Knew You” from Toy Story 5 is out everywhere now.”
Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton previously said, “It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song. Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable. The song is so deeply connected to Toy Story. So much so that on first listen, it instantly felt like it had always belonged there, like a long-lost family member. It was kismet.”

The upbeat, nostalgic song seems to be the mirror to Toy Story 2‘s famous “When She Loved Me,” written by Randy Newman and performed by Sarah McLachlan. The somber “When She Loved Me” plays as Jessie explains her origin story of being abandoned by her original owner, Emily.
“I Knew It, I Knew You” brings Jessie’s story full circle, although we won’t know exactly how until the film’s release on June 19. We do know Jessie ends up back at Emily’s house, now occupied by the young horse-loving Blaze Manoukian, and that Emily will appear in Toy Story 5 in a remastered version of the flashback sequence.
