'Toy Story 5' is the #1 Movie in the World, Brings in $71 Million on Opening Day

Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 is already have a fantastic opening weekend, with $71 Million in revenue on the first day alone as the #1 movie in the world.

Toy Story 5 is expected to have a record-breaking opening weekend at the box office. Predictions estimate that the film will hit between $150-$175 Million. And, it’s off to a strong start with $71 Million on Friday, June 19—the film’s opening day.

If today and tomorrow bring in $50 Million each, that would bring the total to the higher end of that prediction. Regardless of how the weekend finishes, this movie is almost guaranteed to be the top earner in the Toy Story franchise.

  • Lightyear: $50.5 million
  • Toy Story 4: $120.9 million
  • Toy Story 3: $110.3 million
  • Toy Story 2: $80.8 million
  • Toy Story: $29.1 million

It was also named the top preview film of the year, bringing in $17.5 Million in previews at the box office.

To date, Incredibles 2 (2018) is Pixar’s highest-grossing opening weekend film, which earned $182.6 million in its first domestic weekend.

Toy Story 5 follows the characters as they face a new enemy: electronics. Lilypad threatens to take over play time with Bonnie.

Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they come face-to-face with Lilypad, a brand-new tablet device that arrives with her own disruptive ideas about what is best for their kid, Bonnie. Will playtime ever be the same?
