Aerial photos from @bioreconstruct show the installation of the first sections of themed concrete and the fate of the missing entrance columns at the future entrance to Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Last week, we saw the first pieces of decorative trim work being installed on the exterior of the Monstropolis restrooms. The arched window trimwork had triangles pointing upwards resembling horns. These were the first monster-themed elements we have seen.

In the latest images from @bioreconstruct, we can now also see the first sections of thematic concrete being worked on. In the above image are wooden triangle forms that will resemble monster horns or teeth. Workers can also be seen working on a brand new poured section of wet concrete.

These triangles can also be seen in the center of the concept art image above.

Entrance Columns

We have been reporting on the major changes to the new columns, seen above, at the land’s future entrance. After the former Muppets Courtyard walls and columns were removed, four new concrete columns were constructed.

On June 9, we reported that aerial photos of the new column placement revealed a major design change from the concept art.

The frameworks and forms for the columns, in the aerial photos on June 9, showed that the column placements were at a 45-degree angle to the walkway and not parallel, as in the concept art.

However, in our report from July 15, one of the columns was missing, and another one had been shortened. In the image above from July 15th, the innermost column on the left was removed, and the innermost column on the right was made shorter.

As of June 17, only one column remained. Three of the four columns were missing from our vantage point, leaving only the one on the far left, as seen in the above photo.

And now the latest aerial photos reveal what we have not been able to see from ground level. The new columns are being cut down into smaller sections and hauled away by dumpster.

Presumably, a decision was made to divert from the original plans, an error in placement was made, or a structural problem was found that required their demolition.

Monstropolis

Monstropolis will be the first land based on Monsters, Inc. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney recently revealed that the land’s story will center on H.U.M.A.N. Day, short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice,” a celebration welcoming humans into Monstropolis after the events of the original film.

The project includes the Monsters, Inc. door coaster, Harryhausen’s, and The Glob theater. Disney has not yet announced an opening date for Monstropolis.
