New close-up views reveal the monster-inspired details transforming buildings in the future Monstropolis land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Monstropolis Construction Up Close

During our latest visit to Hollywood Studios, we took a closer look at the design work now underway across the upcoming Monstropolis area. Park photographer bioreconstruct also shared his own zoomed-in angles on development so far.

The close-up views follow our recent look at painting underway around The Glob’s clock tower.

The former MuppetVision 3D theater, which will become The Glob, is receiving new faux brickwork around its central tower.

Two steel beams can be seen protruding outward from the facade and almost past the scaffolding’s limits. These beams are at the location of The Glob’s future marquee and are likely its first supports.

Red brick covers parts of the lower structure, while smaller bricks in varying shades of gray await red paint across the structure surface.

A recessed red-orange panel interrupts the brick pattern, possibly for use as a future contrasting accent element or to denote the location of some later fixture.

Other sections feature small mesh-covered openings and box-shaped steel pieces projecting from the walls. These may support additional decorations that have yet to be installed.

The most overtly monstrous details are appearing on the former Gonzo’s Royal Flush restroom building.

We first spotted the monster-inspired pieces earlier this month but thanks to bioreconstruct we have a close-up view that shows more of the detail in the rows of pointed triangles hanging from the white trim like teeth.

The trim also features oversized circular “rivets,” blocky supports, and angular pieces that reinforce the land’s style.

Partially blocked by the scaffolding, the tops of the window trim can also be seen in the above photo. There are two windows with triangles pointing upwards like horns.

A close-up of the trimwork on the bottom of the windows shows more of the downward-pointing triangles.

Earlier aerial photos captured the first themed concrete work at Monstropolis, including more triangular concrete forms resembling monster teeth or horns.

Work also continues on Harryhausen’s and the suspended Monsters, Inc. door coaster. Recent aerial photos revealed what may be one of the coaster’s first scenes taking shape.

Monstropolis

Monstropolis will be the first land based on Monsters, Inc. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney recently revealed that the land’s story will center on H.U.M.A.N. Day, short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice,” a celebration welcoming humans into Monstropolis after the events of the original film.

The project includes the Monsters, Inc. door coaster, Harryhausen’s, and The Glob theater. Disney has not yet announced an opening date for Monstropolis.
