Disney Actively Developing Original Live-Action Tiana Film, Colman Domingo and Robert O'Hara to Co-Write

A recent interview with Deadline indicates that Disney is developing an original live-action film based on The Princess and the Frog.

Live-Action Princess and the Frog Movie

According to Deadline, Colman Domingo and Robert O’Hara are in talks to write an original live-action movie about Tiana from The Princess and the Frog (2009), one of Disney’s last hand-drawn animated films.

The Princess and the Frog is set in New Orleans in the 1920s and loosely based on E.D. Baker’s book The Frog Princess. The movie follows Tiana, a waitress working two jobs so she can afford to buy her own restaurant, and Prince Naveen, who gets turned into a frog by the voodoo witch doctor, Facilier. Tiana and Naveen work together to turn themselves back into humans after Tiana accidentally becomes a frog as well.

This project is still in the early days, so not many details are known about the project. Domingo and O’Hara’s movie is being billed as a spin-off of the animated feature, rather than a full-on adaptation, so more in line with the live-action Gaston project that is in the works.

Other Disney live-action films in the works include Tangled and Lilo and Stitch 2. The most recent live-action film to be released was Moana a week ago, which may lose over $100 million.
