A new permit mentioning Intamin reveals that Universal has plans for a new flagship ride in Lost Continent in Islands of Adventure.
Universal Files New Permit with Intamin
The permit, recorded in Orange County, Florida, on December 16, 2025, mentions the grantor as Universal City Development Partners and the grantee as Intamin. The location of the permit also aligns with the area formerly occupied by The Lost Continent.

The mention of Intamin is the first new piece of information we’ve learned since the construction confirmation. Intamin is the developer behind two of Universal Orlando’s favorite coasters, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and Jurassic World VelociCoaster, both of which are also in Islands of Adventure.

Additionally, “specialty equipment” is the description used when theme parks are installing a new ride system or attraction component. This means that whatever plans Universal has for The Lost Continent, they’re going to involve a themed thrill ride, most likely a launch coaster.
In September, Universal filed a permit to demolish five acres in the land and confirmed that construction was happening. In October, an additional permit to renovate seven existing acres of The Lost Continent was filed. Since then, Universal has been actively clearing trees and leveling ground backstage.
The Lost Continent Replacement Speculation

The Lost Continent has sat largely dormant for the past several years. The Poseidon’s Fury walk-through attraction closed in May 2023, and the Eighth Voyage of Sindbad show preceded it by shuttering in 2018. However, the theater (with its set still intact) has been used as a rest area and “Cool Zone” in the years since.

The Lost Continent’s only remaining “attraction” is the talking Mystic Fountain in Sindbad’s Bazaar. Earlier this year, that area received a How to Train Your Dragon overlay for the live-action remake’s release.
Speculation has swirled about Universal’s plans for the defunct land, although none have been confirmed. One theory is that, due to its location and the fact that its Merlinwood area was already absorbed into The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade in 2010, The Lost Continent could be turned into an extension of that land.

Another popular rumor is that Universal will expand on its Nintendo partnership and transform the land into an area based on Hyrule from The Legend of Zelda franchise. This has been fueled by the appearance of Legend of Zelda merchandise at Epic Universe, as well as the upcoming live-action film slated for release in March 2027.
