A little birdie told us about some new details of Epcot’s ongoing overhaul, including the return of the park’s classic logo font and more.
The above concept art was created for use on the manhole covers located near the front of the park. The entrance area is currently being remodeled, in a project that should yield results similar to the concept art seen below:
All of this work is part of Project Gamma, which includes an re-imagining of the park’s entrance, the center area of Future World, and eventually, Spaceship Earth. We of course revealed all of these plans already and you can read all about the yet-to-be-announced details of Project Gamma here, such as the new Beer Garden, Permanent Festival Center, and more. I don’t foresee this project being far enough out to where Disney can delay it or modify any plans at this point, so I’d still expect it all to be announced at the D23 Expo in August. It’s also all seemingly good change, so I doubt any feedback on this news will ruffle any feathers within the organization.
The manhole cover features “Epcot” in a style very reminiscent of the early days of the park. According to sources, this is the “new” logo the park will adopt moving forward, also bringing back the old “flower icon” at the center of the cover back into use.
Be sure to stay tuned to WDWNT.com for further information on the transformation of Epcot.
Snarky
The old typeface was a modified Handel Gothic. This new one is rounder.
The styling is close enough, it is meant to evoke it.
“A little birdie told us”
“Ruffle any feathers”
lol
I see what you’re doing there.
Toúche!
They want to make more open space at the entrance to make it easier for guest to get in and out of the park, so they are removing the leave a legacy granite monoliths to put flower and tree green spaces in the monoliths place? That doesn’t make any sense to me. Why not just leave it open?
