BOO! Happy Halloween! While you folks are just getting started, Halloween is already almost over here in Tokyo! Now, if you’ve been keeping up with our Tokyo Disney Resort photo reports, you probably have seen sections dedicated to Guest costumes. Here in Tokyo, Guests are free to dress up in Disney character costumes through the entire season! This year, Disney Halloween ran September 10th through October 31st. So, Guests poured in to the parks with incredible costumes, both hand-made or bought from professionals. From classic character looks like Mickey and Minnie Mouse, to beloved films like Cinderella, Zootopia, and Frozen, among many others, to even past shows and parades at Tokyo Disney Resort, the variety and spectacle were unbelievable! So, in celebration of Halloween, I wanted to share my favorites from throughout the season. Let’s dive right in!

Pan Galactic Pizza Port – Chefs

TDL PR091819 19

I originally showed you this wonderful group on our September 17th photo report. Pan Galactic Pizza Port has an excellent (and super cheesy, ha) animatronic and video show (think Sonny Eclipse but a bit more variety). Parts of the show feature chefs in the “kitchen” making a bit of mischief. I really loved the creativity with this group!

Spooky “Boo!” Parade (2018) – Mickey & Minnie

TDL PR091819 29

Also on our September 17th photo report, I spotted this couple dressed as Mickey and Minnie in their 2018 Spooky “Boo!” outfits. Their outfits changed this year, but that doesn’t make these any less impressive! It took some time for this year’s costumes to show up at the parks, but these outfits were still fairly prominent. I definitely share their enthusiasm for Spooky “Boo!” Parade, and I can’t wait to see it again next year!

Usatama on the Run! (2017, 2019) – Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Chip, Dale, & Clarice

TDL PR091819 35

Usatama on the Run! is one of my favorites from this year, and I’m incredibly heartbroken that it won’t be returning next year. Fingers crossed for 2021, though! In the meantime, this huge group covered everyone in the core Disney Friends group except  Pluto, and reminded me of my deep love for Usatama on the Run! This group was originally spotted on our September 17th photo report.

Camp Woodchuck – Huey, Dewey, & Louie(?)

TDL PR 101519 1

This lovely trio first appeared on our October 16th photo report, and feature matching outfits for their Gelatoni, StellaLou, and Duffy! How precious! I honestly am not sure if they represent Huey, Dewey, and Louie, or if they’re just ducks. I should’ve asked!

Spooky “Boo!” Parade (2018-2020) – Dancer

TDL PR 101519 13

Also in our October 16th photo report, I found this incredibly well-done (and handmade, if I remember correctly) costume of one of the Spooky “Boo!” Parade ghost dancers! You have no idea how many dancer costumes I saw in the past two months. I think that means Guests really love the parade! I do too, for the record.

Zootopia – Nick Wilde, Judy Hopps, & Bellwether

TDL PR 101519 14

Zootopia is extremely popular here in Japan. There were so many Judy and Nick pairings, but I think this trio was my favorite! Additionally, they were incredibly kind and I was glad to have a brief chat with them, despite my limited Japanese. They also appeared on our October 17th photo report.

A Table is Waiting (2008, 2011-2017) – Minnie & Daisy

TDS PR 102419 33

If you’re not familiar with A Table is Waiting, you absolutely should look it up. It’s by far one of my favorite shows at Tokyo DisneySea, despite being long gone. So spotting this pair in our October 24th photo report brought back some very fond memories for me.

Disney Princesses – Cinderella, Belle, & Aurora

TDL PR102719 8

These three lovely ladies first appeared in our October 27th photo report. The costumes look absolutely incredible, but I was wondering how they were surviving on such a warm day!

Natsu Matsuri – Saiyo Kabu (2016) – Mickey, Donald, & Pluto

TDL PR102719 12

Also in our October 27th photo report, I met this wonderful trio of Natsu Matsuri 2016 Disney Friends! For those unfamiliar, Tokyo Disneyland used to hold a Japanese-style summer festival featuring dance competitions and shows between 2012 and 2018.

Let’s Party Gras! (2018-Present) – Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Max, & Clarice

TDL PR102719 16

What does one do when you dress as characters from a current show? Why, go see the show, of course! This group was waiting and taking pictures before the next show of Let’s Party Gras!, and they were kind enough to let me take a group photo of them! They also originally appeared on our October 27th photo report.

Spooky “Boo!” Parade (2018-2020) – Dancers

TDL PR102719 18

Every float features different dancers for the Spooky “Boo!” show stop. These two represented the Adventureland float featuring Goofy and Max, and one of them even had stylish shades to block the bright autumn sun! This creative duo appeared originally on our October 27th photo report.

It’s Christmas Time! (2018-2020) – Mickey & Minnie

TDL PR102719 19

And finally, representing one of two remaining shows I’ve yet to see at Tokyo Disney Resort, this adorable couple were celebrating Mickey and Minnie from Tokyo DisneySea’s It’s Christmas Time! harbor show. I’m a huge holiday person, so this got me even more hyped for the season! Who’s ready for Christmas?

Jamboree Mickey! (2019-Present)

TDL PR102719 33

And rounding out the October 27th reappearances is this dancer from the all-new kids show Jamboree Mickey! He looked extra happy and energetic, and even danced along with me for a moment!

Dreaming Up! (2018-Present) – Mickey & Minnie

TDL CostumeReport2019 1

I’ve been eyeballing doing the Mickey costume myself next year, incidentally, because Dreaming Up! and the Tokyo Disney Resort 35th Anniversary hold a significant sentimental value to me. These two made me even more motivated to do so!

Spooky “Boo!” Parade (2018-2020) – Dancers

TDL CostumeReport2019 2

These two are dancers for the Western River Railroad and Cinderella Castle (respectively) segments of the Spooky “Boo!” Parade. Let me tell you, watching Guests dressed as dancers interact with the actual dancers is a bit of a trip, but they play off each other quite well!

Jubilation! (2008-2013) – Mickey & Minnie

TDL CostumeReport2019 3

Jubilation! was the daytime parade at Tokyo Disneyland from 2008-2013, introduced as part of the Tokyo Disney Resort 25th Anniversary celebration! These two are actually fairly timely, as Jubilation! will be one of the events making a musical return during Very Very Minnie next year!

Spooky “Boo!” Parade (2018-2020) – Ghost Balloons & Tombstones

TDL CostumeReport2019 4

After the Spooky “Boo!” show stop, cute ghost balloons inflate and “wave” at Guests for the rest of the parade. Additionally, tombstones with clever puns cover several of the parade floats, leading to a chuckle for those that understand them!

Perfect Christmas (2015) – Minnie & Goofy

TDL CostumeReport2019 5

Perfect Christmas was the holiday harbor show at Tokyo DIsneySea in 2015, featuring these lovely red and green costumes! Man, I would’ve loved to see this one!

Mysterious Masquerade (2009-2010) – Mickey & Donald

TDL CostumeReport2019 6

Mysterious Masquerade is often regarded as the pinnacle of seasonal entertainment at Tokyo Disney Resort, and for good reason. During Halloween 2009 and 2010, the show ran at the Waterfront Park in Tokyo DisneySea, and followed the Disney Friends as they were taken captive by ghosts haunting Harrison Hightower III’s artifact collection! This one is another I highly recommend looking for online, because it really is breathtaking!

Mary Poppins – Mary Poppins

TDL CostumeReport2019 7

Miss “Practically Perfect in Every Way” herself came to say hi to Tokyo Disneyland for Halloween! Mary Poppins is actually my favorite live-action Disney film, so this sighting brought joy to my nostalgic heart!

Dreaming Up! (2018-Present) – Dancers

TDL CostumeReport2019 8

Every float in Dreaming Up!, Tokyo Disneyland’s current daytime parade, features dancers with some abstract (but incredible) costumes related to their unit! These three were camped out and ready to watch the parade in Toontown, and maybe even spot their dancer counterparts!

Cool the Heat! (2011) – Mickey, Minnie, Donald, & Max

TDL CostumeReport2019 9

Cool the Heat! was a staple of Tokyo Disneyland’s summers for six years, with its final year rethemed around the Pirates of the Caribbean! The Disney Friends were on the hunt for the Fountain of Youth, and soaked Guests in the process.

Frozen & Olaf’s Frozen Adventure – Anna & Elsa

TDL CostumeReport2019 10

Representing Japan and its ridiculously high enthusiasm and love for Frozen, these four were dressed as Royal Elsa, Winter Anna, Summer Anna, and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure Elsa respectively! These were all so intricate, and I appreciated this group taking time to reposition for a better shot!

New York Halloween Follies (2014) – Minnie

TDL CostumeReport2019 11

Another DisneySea costume over at Tokyo Disneyland, New York Halloween Follies was an excellent Halloween show presented only one year at Waterfront Park in the American Waterfront!

Crystal Wishes Journey (2016-2017) – MC

TDL CostumeReport2019 12

Ah, memories! My very first trip to Tokyo Disney Resort was during the Tokyo DisneySea 15th Anniversary celebration, so seeing someone representing such a sentimental time made me think back to my very first time seeing these parks! Oh, how I’d love to experience it again!

Pirates of the Caribbean – Jack Sparrow & Captain Barbossa

TDL CostumeReport2019 13

WOW! These two were not only excellent craftsmen of their costumes, but looked and acted just like their counterparts! I hate to say it in regards to everyone else, but I think these two won Halloween entirely!

Happiness is Here (2013-2018) & Minnie’s Tropical Splash (2013-2016) – Minnie & Daisy

TDL CostumeReport2019 15

Duffy’s Delightful Autumn Woods (2019) – Gelatoni

TDL CostumeReport2019 16

I’m a Gelatoni stan (as is almost everyone else here at WDWNT), so this costume was just too much to resist! Who wants to go as a group next year?

Duffy’s Happy Marching Fun (2018) – Duffy, ShellieMay, Gelatoni, & StellaLou

TDL CostumeReport2019 17

Also in the Duffy vein, I met this lovely group of four dressed in the Duffy’s Happy Marching Fun outfits from last year! How precious can you get!?

Fashionable Easter (2015, 2017-2018) – Designers

TDL CostumeReport2019 18

The four designers were the MCs for Tokyo DisneySea’s Fashionable Easter event! They brought fashion and dances from the American Waterfront, Lost River Delta, Mermaid Lagoon, and Mysterious Island to Porto Paradiso for all to enjoy!

Mysterious Masquerade (2009-2010) & My Friend Duffy (2010-Present) – Minnie

TDL CostumeReport2019 19

How much more Tokyo DisneySea can you get? Mysterious Masquerade, as I mentioned, was an excellent Halloween show from 2009-2010, and I ran through the synopsis a bit ago. As for the woman on the right, she was repping My Friend Duffy, which has run in various iterations since 2010 at Cape Cod Cook-Off! The show tells the story of Duffy’s creation, and later how he met his other friends!

Partners – Walt Disney & Mickey

TDL CostumeReport2019 20

This guy has been all over Tokyo’s DisTwitter feeds! I genuinely wonder how he paints himself copper so much and with what! One thing’s for sure: this guy has some incredible skills and passion. Partners is one of the most iconic parts of most Disney castle parks, and it’s wonderful to see it represented in Guest costumes!

Disney Halloween 2019 – Teddi Barra Pochette

TDL CostumeReport2019 21

The Teddi Barra pochette was the most popular item in the Halloween 2019 merchandise lineup by far! It sold out on day one, and only appeared in extremely limited quantities on the official app for a month after. Seeing a Guest take this lovely item to the next level is just incredible!

Festival of Mystique (2019-2020) – Mickey & Minnie

TDL CostumeReport2019 22

Festival of Mystique is this year’s brand-new harbor show at Tokyo DisneySea! In it, evil sea witches trap Mickey and the Disney friends as they try to revive the old Porto Paradiso Halloween Festival! These two hand-made their costumes completely from scratch, and were very happy to explain it to me! Unfortunately, my limited Japanese prevented me from understanding most of it.

Natsu Matsuri: Sansui! Summer Beat (2017-2018) – Mickey

TDL CostumeReport2019 23

In another Natsu Matsuri callback, we have Mickey Mouse of the 2017-2018 iteration! Sansui! Summer Beat celebrated the past Matsuris in its final two years, and I’m disappointed that I barely missed it last year!

Beauty and the Beast – Belle & The Beast

TDL CostumeReport2019 24

That beast head was quite the sight to behold, and the Belle dress is just gorgeous! These two were also very friendly, and I was glad to have met them! But I still have to wonder how they weren’t boiling alive in those costumes.

TRON: Legacy – Quorra

TDL CostumeReport2019 25

I was glad I spotted this one in the evening, because her costume lit up white, as the ISOs in the film did. I’m one of about two people I know that actually enjoyed TRON: Legacy, so seeing such a deep cut was a pleasure! She also had a special light-up Identity Disc on her back!

And that’s the highlights from the Halloween season here at Tokyo Disney Resort! I know it was a bit long, but there was so much variety and skill that I had a lot of ground to cover! I hope you enjoyed this look at the incredible skills and dedication of Guests at Tokyo Disney Resort! I’ve been inspired myself to dress up next year, and I’m already starting to decide who I’ll be going as! Which ones were your favorites? Let us know below or on Twitter!
