Sugar, spice, and all things nice! A magical surprise will soon arise at the lobby of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge with the arrival of an all-new gingerbread cabin. In keeping with the tradition that most Magic Kingdom resorts follow around the holidays, a tiny cabin is being built out of wood and covered with gingerbread shingles and brick. The Contemporary Resort may have the Cinderella Castle Gingerbread display, and the Grand Floridian’s Gingerbread House is just a few days away from completion, but now we have a sweet new construction update for you.
The house is currently being assembled in the lobby, overseen by managers and the resort’s pastry chef team. We’re huge fans of the bakery team here, with Roaring Fork doling out some of the best baked goods on property, and we can’t wait to see the final cabin.
Signage is propped up throughout the lobby to get guests hyped for the new cabin. For years, the resort usually set up hot chocolate serving stations for guests, but this is the first year that the resort gets its very own larger-than-life gingerbread display.
The base of the display is set on rolling wheels, with a log cabin section and the roof set off to the side. We were actually able to catch them placing the roof on the cabin, so keep scrolling for more photos and even a video of the construction process.
I love the intricate gingerbread work on the chimney bricks. This isn’t a cut and paste situation. Each differently-sized cookie has to be baked and placed individually, and lined up to fit correctly.
Additional plywood on the scene makes it look like the cabin will even have its own interior.
We saw some final touches added to the roof before it was installed.
Check out the process of attaching the delicate gingerbread roof onto the cabin base in the video below!
Off to the side, we saw some spare gingerbread pieces for any last-minute repairs.
Now with the roof secured in place, the pastry chefs are actually piping on icing in between the gingerbread bricks to act as “cement.”
The shingles are getting coated with a shiny layer of sealant to keep them fresh throughout the duration of the holiday season.
A plastic tarp was also laid down to keep the floor clean and icing-free during the final construction phase of the gingerbread cabin.
If you’re at Wilderness Lodge, don’t forget to check out the resort-specific Limited Edition Holiday Bell Pin featuring Chip and Dale.
You can find the pin inside the Wilderness Lodge Mercantile for $17.99.
We’ll definitely be back to check out the completed gingerbread cabin inside Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, so stay tuned!
My brother Joey Garrett built that gingerbread house for Disney! Great Job Joseph!
