As a native New Yorker, the holidays don’t really begin until I’ve made it to New York City to see the holiday window displays at department stores like Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Saks Fifth Avenue. And this year, Saks has dedicated their holiday windows one of Disney’s biggest films of 2019: Frozen 2. So who’s reading to journey past the Enchanted Woods and to the corner of 5th Avenue and 50th Street? Let’s head “into the unknown!”
And speaking of “Into the Unknown,” the first window features Elsa as she appears when she performs the catchy hit from the film. The wisps of her icy powers glow and change color, while a brief video appears behind her as her magic takes the shape of other iconography seen later in the movie. (And yes, that is the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree in the reflections! It’s a very popular spot for tourists.)
The level of detail on these figures is really impressive. It looks like the film come to life!
(Something tells me that horse is going to be important… Nokk on wood.)
The second window features Olaf as he meets the air spirit, better known as Gail.
The figure twists from side to side, as a wind machine blows and shakes the ground and trees behind them.
Again, this is really great to see up close!
The third window features Elsa venturing through the Enchanted Forest as she encounters the fire spirit, who resembles an adorable salamander.
The figure moves from the left side of the window to the center as a fiery glow emits behind her.
The backdrop also rolls across the window, giving an illusion of movement.
Then things cool down and the figure moves back to the left side of the window.
Of course, I couldn’t move on without getting a couple of pictures of this cutie!
This figure actually reminds me of the old-style Fantasyland dark rides at Disney Parks. I could see myself riding past this before heading to the dispatch station.
Window number five features Elsa as she learns to ride the Water Nokk, the water spirit. The water glows in a patter that simulates waves.
It’s hard to get the water to show up well on camera, but I genuinely think the Christmas tree across the street helps!
Now, by this point, you’ve probably noticed that this is a very Elsa-heavy display this year, but Anna, Kristoff and Sven finally appear in the fifth window, as they encounter the Earth Giants, the earth spirits.
The earth giants occasionally shake, suggesting that they’re fast asleep.
Hooray for the magic of forced perspective!
The light also comes on, as the light of day breaks.
And the sixth and final window features Elsa in her new outfit, as she makes a new discovery that might just save Arendelle.
The dress lights up in sync with the spirit crystals, making for a really neat finale.
Here’s a better look at the spirit crystals that surround Elsa.
All in all, it’s a pretty display, and a neat place for Disney fans to visit in New York City during the holidays.

Thanks for sharing! I’m a native Floridian and never been to NYC (I know, *gasp*!). I’ve never had the experience of seeing the window displays at the stores but it looks really amazing. I love your pictures and descriptions. Merry Christmas!
