Since the opening of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, once guests secured a Boarding Group and their group was subsequently called, they had a two-hour window to return to the attraction. Now, it seems recent changes have taken place to alter the return time for Boarding Groups.
In recent dates, instances of one-hour return windows for Boarding Groups have been seen, especially after extended downtimes or delays. Guests will need to read their notification closely to know whether they’ve been assigned a one- or two-hour return window.
While many of this morning’s Boarding Groups still had a two-hour return window, it is no longer the standard, so make sure you keep a close eye on your notification so you do not miss out on your opportunity to board the attraction.
Going to the park tomorrow (Disneyland) Tuesday 28th. How early should I get there to get into the park by 9am to get a shot at a boarding pass?
Get to the park at 650am (at least) for a 7am opening. Whole party must be in the park to get one.
I can only speak for Disney World but Hollywood studios opened at 7 am even though official opening was 9 am.
I went there on Saturday at 8:45 am and on the tram ride they made an announcement that the boarding was “sold out” for the day. However, that was a Saturday. Hopefully Tuesdays are much less crazy.
My sister told me she did it through an app right at 8 am the day of her visit. Groups were full in minutes.
830am, ride is worth the wait.
Yesterday
Any update on how fast the boarding groups are running out after park opening?
3-10 min for regular boarding groups, an hour or two for backups.
I went on Sunday Jan 26th and the passes were all out by 8:10, I got boarding group 112 and was never called. If you get any boarding group over 82 it’s highly unlikely they’ll get to you. Maybe if you stay till midnight

So the one hour return times are for groups after it breaks down? Is there an easy way to check and see if it up and running when our boarding group gets close to being called
As you keep checking your app (or the wait-time signage in the park), you should notice the boarding group numbers changing every 15 minutes or so. If the notifications remain stuck on the same boarding group numbers for a half hour or longer, without moving upward, this is a good indication that the attraction has had a breakdown. When the numbers start changing again, it means the attraction is back up and running.
I am going to Hollywood Studios a week from today (Tuesday, 2/4). This is the first day the park has an advertised opening time of 8 am. How confident should we be that the boarding pass process for ROTR will start at park open vs. the normal 7 am start time?
