Tokyo Disney Resort Introducing Variable Pricing Tickets Starting March 20, 2021

Since the Oriental Land Company abolished attraction/admission-only tickets in 2001, Tokyo Disney Resort has levied a standard, flat admission fee for all Guests visiting the two parks. But those days are no more, as Tokyo Disney Resort will be introducing a variably-priced ticketing system starting on March 20, 2021.

Starting March 20th, 2021, the following admission cost change will be implemented (in Japanese yen and including tax).

The Oriental Land Company confirmed today that the higher ticket prices will be in effect on days like weekends, spring vacation (most of the month of March), and holidays like the Golden Week period, among others. Further details regarding daily ticket prices will be announced at a later date.

These prices are quite a hike considering that in April, Tokyo Disney Resort hiked its one day ticket prices from ¥7400 ($71.57) to ¥8200 ($79.31). This hike now places a weekend or holiday day at either Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea at ¥8700 ($84.15), nearly $13 higher than just under a year ago. The Oriental Land Company said in the release:

“The new variable pricing will enable a more equal distribution throughout the year of Guests visiting the Parks, further enhancing the Park experience for Guests”

Other revenue-increasing measures, such as a paid FastPass system, are also being explored by the Oriental Land Company right now, according to their second quarter filings. Time will tell how Guests respond to these increases, there was already a fairly sizeable outcry in January when ticket prices were hiked by ¥700.
