PHOTOS: Universe of Energy Solar Panels Completely Removed for Guardians of the Galaxy Roller Coaster at Epcot

The iconic solar panels that once powered some of the Universe of Energy at Epcot have been taken down as Walt Disney Imagineering transforms the pavilion into a Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster ride.

Rumor has it that the panels will return, but they apparently needed some repair work after an assessment of their current state.

The original Universe of Energy building will be used for queue, the loading area and first scenes of the new roller coaster, and the large gift shop for the attraction opening in 2021. The rest of the roller coaster ride will take place in a brand new gravity building.

Futureworld – a look at the future and… aliens. Oh well, at least it makes more sense than a Monster’s comedy show in Tomorrowland.

I agree this will cheapen the whole premise of EPCOT. But today’s society is far different than the 80s. We’re less optimistic. It’s sad since many of us still share an optimistic view of the world.
