Here are a few updates from around the Magic Kingdom this week. Several construction projects, major and minor, are underway at the moment. Let’s see how they’re coming.
Construction Updates
Sonny Eclipse is back in the house! His lounge had been closed last week for a floor replacement project.
The vinyl flooring is nondescript and functional. Welcome to the future!
Construction is moving in phases. Bay 1 is now closed for it’s new floor. The whole process seems like it won’t take too long. Sonny’s room was down for just a few days.
Tomorrowland Speedway construction is well underway. Well, it’s just destruction so far. The back loop of the track is completely gone. You can see dirt paths where it used to be. They have to shorten the track to make way for Tron.
The lovely little path from Tomorrowland to Fantasyland is now completely gone, as is a large chunk of the WDW Railroad’s track. The majority of construction will be just to the right of this picture, outside the berm. This area will mostly be the entrance and outdoor portion of the coaster.
It’s January! That means the crane is back. This big hunk of machinery will take the holiday lights down from the castle over the next few weeks, as it does every year.
This path around the backside of the castle is closed due to the crane.
Merchandise Updates
Over in Fantasyland, I noticed that Bonjour Village Gifts has rearranged their layout quite a bit.
This shop used to be about half artwork, half toys and such for the little ones. It’s now almost entirely artwork and home goods.
I found this interesting shirt in Sir Mickey’s. It’s a quote from Sleeping Beauty, and “pink” and “blue” are written in double-sided sequins that you can shift to change color.
New Pandora charms at Uptown Jewelers on Main Street! One of them is Cinderella’s carriage, and one is a Minnie Mouse ear headband.
Et Cetera
The Cinderella fountain behind the castle was dry today. Not sure why, but it sure looks sad when it’s turned off.
On Main Street, as part of Mickey’s 90th Celebration, there are “randomized” meet and greets every day. Every day of the week, a different pair of characters meet in town square from 11:30 into the afternoon. Here are just a few we’ve seen over the last couple days.
Check it out next time you’re there. They list them in the My Disney Experience app, if you’re curious who will be there that day.
Have you ever been into the Car Barn in Town Square? The trolley wasn’t running due to concrete work on Main Street, so they had it open to the public for a while.
Very friendly folks work in the Car Barn…
…and very friendly horses!
Yay Sonny!
I adore the “I want adventure in the great wide somewhere” mug.
In retrospect, there are certain drawbacks to using this site to fill my longing to return to Disney despite being in Canada.
They make the track much shorter and nobody will ride it. They should rebuild it make it cooler and s cycle ride or another tron ride
