Demolition has begun to remove the Walk Around the World bricks from The Magic Kingdom area as part of an overhaul of the park’s arrival experience. Along with the other ongoing work at the Transportation and Ticket Center, this afternoon marked the beginning of the end for the personalized bricks that have paved the way to monorails and ferryboats for guests since the mid-1990’s.

The TTC is a war zone right now…

While many bricks look to be intact, they will not be returned to guests. Instead, they can purchase a new brick at the Magic Kingdom or Disney Springs (or from the comfort of home) to take home. All of the bricks will be removed eventually, but work began here.

All of this work will make way for a revamped entry experience, with supposedly streamlined tram drop-offs and a better security screening setup.

We now take to the Walt Disney World Monorail to see the work from above.

There is no word as to when the work is expected to be complete, but stick with WDWNT.com for the latest.

  1. Well, for all of us that paid to have our names on the brick, this pretty much sucks….Thanks Iger!

    • I agree it breaks my heart. My father who is no longer with us, thought this would keep his memory alive. Every tine I go to Disney I look at our names. Sorry Dad.

  2. i just really hope the new security involves bag scanners and metal detectors like the airport. would make things go so much faster and streamlined.

  3. Not sure why folks are surprised at this since they stated this was not forever when you purchased the brick and after a certain point Disney could do exactly what they are doing. It is stated clearly in document when you paid for the brick.

  4. Don’t know what they have planned to replace them, but their demolition seems pretty unnecessary.

  5. This is sad to see that is the spot where mine & my brother’s brick is .ok we knew one day this would happen it has been there since 2000.when seen it in november & gave a little clean up but the names where starting to fade away more & more.we knew it was only ment to be down for 11years at the most but we have our photo’s to look at.we have another at the pol beach & that has been down since 1997 so that will be going to .😢😢

  6. Hmmmm……..buy a brick to leave a legacy……..destroy the bricks and then offer to sell you another one. Brillant money making scheme once again. Way to go Disney!!

  7. My partner and I have our pictures on the WALLS in EPCOT CENTER. I wonder how long before they go away!

You can get a color copy of your picture but ONLY if you go to the camera shop at the park entrance, have them call it up on their computer and then take a picture that way.

We were one of the first pictures on the WALL. Where did they stick us? No, not at eye level but in the bottom row. AH! THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY!

  8. BUT MY MEMORIES! HOW WILL I LIVE WITH MYSELF IF A PHYSICAL OBJECT IS REMOVED BY A MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR CORPORATION WHO TOLD ME MY ROCK WAS ONLY FOR A LIMITED TIME! DISNEY OWES ME!

  9. I think we should have been allowed a “marker” or something, to replace it and take ours home…. Our whole family names date and all were on ours right where this picture is !!!!! I am just sick….

  10. Very upsetting, especially for the reason and for whom we bought ours which is over by the polyneisian(sp). Glad we got to see it our last visit a couple years ago. Wish there was a way to get our hands on it, if I had realized then, I might have tried to pry it out and bring home. The certificate is framed and hung in our den with special dates that happened to work out perfectly when we got it and they printed it. A big personal family loss 💔😢.

  11. I think 25 years is long enough. We always enjoyed visiting our brick every time we visited, but many look in tough shape. They only promised 10 years, so seeing them for 15 additional years was a bonus.
