Disney Skyliner Officially Opening on September 29th at Walt Disney World

Disney has officially announced that on September 29, Disney Skyliner gondolas will take flight and officially begin transporting guests around Walt Disney World Resort. As we hashed out in an earlier assessment of Skyliner openings, according to construction personnel working on the project, select Disney Skyliner lines may still open to guests in late August.

Check out the full announcement below!

As many of you have seen, this state-of-the-art transportation system offers a new way to experience the resort with amazing views only available from the sky. Disney Skyliner connects Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four resort hotels- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and the new Disney’s Riviera Resort scheduled to open in December 2019.

Some Disney Skyliner cabins feature graphics based on Disney films, attractions and characters. We got to view most of the character designs back in May. Check out the full series of character gondolas here!

  1. Will all the stations be open on that date or only some of them? You mentioned that the Epcot and Riviera stations won’t be open for some time.

  2. Wait… it officially opens on September 29, but the Hollywood Studios – AoA / Pop Century guests may be able to use it on August 29? Confused.

  3. any word on if the epcot line will open on 8/29 as well? i know it was speculated it was behind but this announcement from disney was very vague. in my opinion, if the lines aren’t all operating, they shouldn’t open it.

  4. At first glance the string of gondolas coming and going from Disney’s Hollywood Studios looks tacky.

Walt Disney World is not a ski resort where guest need a break from a black diamond run nor is it some mountain side taking tourists to the top for picturesque views.

For some the gondola “may be” a unique method of transportation but I wonder how it will fair in regards to speed, safety and comfort.

The impact that the gondola system will have on visual pollution will be irreversible. Asphalt trails cut through the trees make this look more like cans of sardines on a conveyor belt.

Were gondolas really the best idea that the Disney brain trust could come up with?

This would have been the perfect opportunity to introduce the next generation WEDWay PeopleMover. With AI, green propulsion and maybe some form of levitation this could have been amazing.

    • Last time I looked London and Caracas were not ski areas, and yet they have gondolas for transportation…

      • London is not WDW and it’s gondola is more of an advertisement for an airline. The novelty wore off and ridership declined. People still use it but not near the expected levels.

Caracas is a mountainous area perfect for a gondola system.

Caracas has year long lower temps than WDW. Passengers unlike those at WDW will not lose 5 lbs in water weight with ever ride.

Caracas has terrible, terrible and dangerous roads.

Caracas is in financial ruins. A Disney cast-member makes more in an hour than most living in Caracas make in a week.

So the question is is a gondola system the best a $100+ BILLION DOLLAR company could do for its paying customers or should we be more concerned for the plight of the people of Caracas.

  5. I thought you announced that the Skyliners were slated to open on Aug. 28th …. where did that info come from if this is the official announcement?

  6. I am So so so disappointed !!!! Now I get the crowds with a half opened land and no skyliner! I was actually more interested in the skyliner than galaxies edge shopping center 😆
