For years, two adorable, three-dimensional signs featuring a “Rocketeer”-style Mickey have flanked each entrance to the Mickey’s Star Traders store in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom. Despite multiple paint jobs in the land and ongoing refurbishment inside the store, these two signs remained untouched… until now.
It appears that both signs have been removed and in their place are wooden boards.
Over on the aqua side that is currently open, the board is wrapped in black tarp.
Over on the side entrance that is currently closed during the refurbishment, at least the board is covered in matching white tarp, so it blends in.
Here’s a look at what the entrances looked like earlier this week, with both signs still intact:
Both sides recently received new matching “Mickey’s Star Traders” signage over the doorways.
The sign featured various layers of darkened metal with the store name written out in classic retro-futuristic font. The most iconic part of the sign was Mickey, also in layers of darkened steel, wearing a set of blue goggles.
It is unknown whether the signs have merely been temporarily removed as part of the store’s current refurbishment project, or whether the store will be receiving all-new signs. We’ll keep checking in on the progress of Mickey’s Star Traders refurbishment to keep you updated on any future changes.
