Back in October, we noticed that the iconic Mickey signs had been removed from the exterior of Mickey’s Star Traders in the Magic Kingdom. The store had been undergoing refurbishment since September, and so far, we’ve seen the interior pipes get a layer of silver paint, as well as the removal of the Stitch City mural from the upper walls of the store. Today, the store debuted new exterior signage, and with construction walls finally down on the store’s interior, the location is debuting its new look just in time for the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party of the year.

The store still has its both entrances intact, although with new signs now gracing each. Over on the teal entrance, there’s a bright red hexagonal sign. The futuristic font reads out “Star Traders” in all lowercase letters and a ring of light around it. The signs point to the store’s new name. With Mickey gone, it appears Mickey’s Star Traders is now simply known as “Star Traders”.

Over on the peach side of the entrance is a mint green sign of the same design.

Inside the store, all of the construction walls are gone, leaving clean new white display stands. The old display stands with colored orbs and metal detailing have since also been replaced.

Thankfully, the PeopleMover windows survived the refurbishment, and guests can once again peer into the newly-renovated store.

What do you think of the new Star Traders store and its new signage? Many were hopeful that the Mickey signs and Stitch City mural would “survive” the refurb, but changes like this are a sure sign of progress.

  1. This is not a “sure sign of progress.” This is sad continuation of stripping retail of theming and placemaking. The stores are simplified, white, and are all looking like Target it Kohl’s. Sad.

  2. Soooooo? They made it boring? Guess I can skip it now like the other Tomorrowland gift shops, thanks for streamlining my vacation

  3. I guess we have to rely on Galaxy’s Edge for any amount of charm and theming in the stores now. Honestly, Mickey being gone from the sign is sad enough on its own, the Stitch City mural is just salt in the wound.

  4. This store looks bland and unfinished. I loathe the McDonald’s looking red and yellow sign on the green wall. And that T Shirt wall looks like Hot Topic. Is this store supposed to be space-themed? Or mall themed?
