Walt Disney World Pulling New MagicBand Slap Bracelets from Store Shelves Due to Manufacturing Defect

After almost two weeks on store shelves, Walt Disney World cast members are now pulling the new MagicBand Slap Bracelets from racks due to some sort of issues with the Mickey Mouse icon pucks that come with each.

MagicBand Slap Bracelets are gone from the Magic Kingdom already.

The MagicBand Slap Bracelets were pulled from stores at the Magic Kingdom this morning, but were still on shelves at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We informed cast members of this and they said they should be gone from all stores property-wide “by the end of the day.”.

According to managers we spoke to, they were having problems with the RFID technology in the Mickey Mouse icon pucks. Apparently, they were encountering issues when trying to link the new slap bracelet bands to guest accounts on MyDisneyExperience.

It is unclear if the existing four designs of the MagicBand Slap Bracelets will return at some point once the issues are corrected, or if more designs will be released at some point. We would assume the manufacturing problem can be solved and that they will, but that’s just a guess on our part.

We’ll keep you updated on this story as more develops.

      • Its not the RFID it was all the soccer moms complaining to guest services about their kids smacking each other with the bracelets as they waited to ride Dumbo

    • I had this problem with the Mickey slap band. It was fine if the RFID puck was removed from the rubber Mickey enclosure. I believe the rubber on the Mickey enclosure is too thick, preventing some of the RFID readers from interacting with it.

On a separate note, I returned mine for a separate reason. After a couple of days’ use, the characters started to fade off the band, they were faceless by the end of my trip. I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy one.

  1. Om my God… How will anyone live without these…??

The entire concept is idiotic, and demonstrates the idiocy of those who buy into any of this…

  2. Yeah, purchased one yesterday and was told sorry, no returns or exchanges. Told by guest services there was an email sent out last week notifying CMs that these bands can’t be used for resort room doors or room charges. FPP and Admission media are unaffected.

  3. Does anyone remember the slap bracelets from the 90s? They were banned because they were actually cutting kids arms up. IMO, these look like cheap counterparts to the traditional magic band.

  4. I am in the events industry and use RFID Technology. Magnetics that hold the slap bracelets together are a definitive issue here. When we have clients that want to use magnetic badging with RFID technology we always tell them absolutely not. I would imagine that this is the issue with these.

  5. I bought orange bird slap wrap at Hollywood Studios last night, linked it to my account no problem and used it for fast passes within a half an hour after. hopefully it doesn’t develop a problem.
