Park Hours Officially Extended at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Through End of January; Evening Extra Magic Hours Returning

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has extended hours at the park once again, allowing for an earlier official open time in anticipation of higher crowds for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

Previously, an 8:00 AM opening for the park was announced through January 4th, but it seems the early open has been extended through the end of January. In addition, some Sunday morning Extra Magic Hours in January have been replaced with two-hour evening Extra Magic Hours at the park, meaning the park will remain open through 11:00 PM on some nights.

While the official opening time these past few days has been 8:00 AM, the park has been quietly opening Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land to guests as early as 6:00 AM. These times have not been officially announced anywhere.

It is still unknown whether Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will be available during these new evening Extra Magic Hours.

  1. Question on using the app to join a boarding group, does your whole party have to enter the park or can just one person arrive early and get the pass for their entire group. Thanks

  2. “available” is a very loose term to ROTR. It broke down 4 times on us yesterday. We were evacuated from the ride twice, and got cleared from the queue another time.

  3. Couple of questions. Planning to go on January in a EMH day, does this mean that the park will be more crowded? Talking about the Night EMH, are they better? Do they benefit us if we want to ride Rise of the Resistance first? Can’t believe changes to times are happening so fast, hope we can make a continuous planning. Thanks for your replies.

    • No matter what day you go, you need to arrive first thing in the morning, as early as possible, if you hope to get a reservation. There will definitely be no boarding reservations left by the time evening Extra Magic Hours kick in. You can always leave the park as soon as you join a boarding group and then come back later to ride. As for crowds, chances are it will be extremely crowded every day, but on Morning EMH days, it will just get crowded a lot sooner.

    • My husband and I were there on Sunday the 8th for extra magic hours in the morning (6-8 AM). Those early morning hours were not crowded. We got there at 5, rode Millenium Falcon, Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Toy Story Mania within those first couple of hours. I can only assume other families had a hard time getting up at 4 AM to be there like we did!
