REVIEW: Mele Kalikimaka to the New Chocolate and Peppermint Christmas Tree Cupcake at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

There is no shortage of Christmas goodies around Walt Disney World right now. We spotted another new seasonal offering today and it was too cute to pass by. This Christmas tree cupcake caught our attention from the display case at Kona Island at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, but will this dessert make the naughty list or the nice list?

A chocolate cupcake base is topped by red and white buttercream icing, and a decorative little tree. The tree might look overly sweet at first glance, but it’s not just a mound of icing. It’s actually an ice cream cone turned upside down and covered in wisps of green frosting.

It’s actually pretty cute. The base is a chocolate cupcake, and inside we found a glob of peppermint mousse. The mousse was thick with a minty taste. We thought the white and red buttercream was vanilla at first, but we quickly tasted a very strong peppermint taste with the icing, too. It tasted like candy canes and paired well with the chocolate cake. The cupcake was good, but it wasn’t as good as some of the other cupcakes we’ve had from this resort.

The cone was a fun and creative touch, but added more of a novelty than any extra taste. It was a soft sugar cone rather than your typical crunchy waffle cone.

Overall, this was a nice peppermint and chocolate treat, but it wasn’t anything we’d leave out for Santa. If you’re looking for peppermint treats, we would suggest a trip to Satu’li Canteen for the white chocolate peppermint mousse instead. Or, just pass over all the holiday treats and go right for the chocolate-dipped bacon from Kona Island. Happy snacking!
