REVIEW: The Beloved Backlot Blondie Makes a Triumphant Return Topped with Chocolate, Toffee, and Coconut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

New year, new dessert. Backlot Express at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has given their blondie a makeover, and we like what we see. The dessert has returned to the menu, but now comes topped with chocolate, toffee, and a little bit of coconut. There are so many verrine desserts around the park that we are excited to try something a little more… solid.

This blondie is giant and easy to eat on-the-go. On one side of the dessert, you’ll find a decorative layer of milk chocolate frosting. There’s a few pieces of coconut shavings, chocolate pieces, and toffee chunks on top of the chocolate. It’s not an overwhelming amount, but the presentation is perfect. There’s even a dark chocolate piece on top of the entire thing to just give the dessert a little extra touch. Quite a few people stopped us to compliment this dessert, too.

This blondie was incredibly soft and fresh. To be honest, we weren’t expecting it to be that good, but it was amazing. The edges were a little bit chewy, and the center a lot softer. It cut in half easily to reveal large chunks of chocolate.

This is perfect for someone who wants a dessert, but not a pile of sugar. This reminded me a lot of a chocolate chip cookie in brownie form. It was chewy, with strong flavors of chocolate and subtle hints of toffee. And don’t let the coconut part scare you. We couldn’t taste any coconut (sorry coconut fans!), even though if was clearly on top of the chocolate.

The milk chocolate frosting was a highlight of this dessert. The creamy, chocolatey topping was so good, and took the blondie to another level. It was almost like chocolate-frosted cookie cake, but much better.
