UPDATE: The Walt Disney Family Museum has released yet another update for visitors looking to stop by the museum, which has now extended its closure through March 20th out of precaution for the Coronavirus pandemic. You can read the announcement below:
“The museum has been notified that the employee whose relative tested positive for COVID-19 has now also tested positive for COVID-19. The employee is currently quarantined at home and doing well, but will not return to work until cleared to do so by medical officials. The museum has no other confirmed cases at this time and is in close communication with its employees. Additionally, the public health officials are helping to ensure that any other individuals who may have been exposed to this employee are notified as soon as possible.
The museum took a proactive approach to this developing situation, closing on Friday, March 6. The museum has conducted a complete and thorough cleaning and sanitization using hospital grade products, both in publicly and non-publicly accessible spaces.
Although a Department of Public Health representative has cleared the museum to reopen, we have decided to keep the museum closed until March 20, in line with Mayor Breed’s two-week precautionary period outlined in her March 6, 2020 guidance. In advance of our reopening, we have installed additional sanitation stations and increased our health and safety protocols, as advised by the CDC, World Health Organization, and other organizations and medical professionals.
We apologize that this closure will impact our members and guests with plans to visit us during this period. We deeply thank you for your patience during this time. This comes on the heels of the historic announcement that Disneyland Resort will also be closing out of caution for the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. You can find the original closure announcement for the museum below.
Due to growing concerns over the Coronavirus outbreak in the United States, The Walt Disney Family Museum has announced that it will be closed through Sunday, March 8th.
The museum released a statement saying that during the closure, the San Francisco-based museum will “conduct a deep cleaning and sanitation of all museum spaces and add further protocols and precautions.”
All programming through Sunday will be cancelled or rescheduled, and ticket-holders will receive communication regarding refunds.
In a statement, museum Executive Director Kirsten Komoroske said, “I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, but the health and well-being of our guests, staff, and community are our primary concern. We thank everyone for your support of the museum during this time, and we send you and your families our best wishes.”
The museum invited guests to review the CDC-issued guidelines and the CDC’s travel alert list related to COVID-19.
This is far from the first Disney-related attraction to close over the Coronavirus outbreak. Shanghai Disney Resort and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort are currently closed indefinitely, while Tokyo Disney Resort has temporarily closed until March 15th.
