UPDATE: Walt Disney World Officially Retracts July 11 Reopening Date for Resort Hotels

While no mention of resort hotels was made during yesterday’s reopening presentation, the Walt Disney World website displayed an update that specifically included resort hotels as part of the July 11 reopening date:

This update has since been modified to remove wording about Disney Resort hotels:

Now, Disney has confirmed with the media that the inclusion of Disney Resort hotels was done in error, and that there is currently no reopening date for non-DVC properties:

Disney Vacation Club resorts at Walt Disney World will reopen to members and guests on June 22, in addition to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Disney Vacation Club resorts in Vero Beach, Florida and Hilton Head, South Carolina will also reopen to members and guests starting on June 15.

Upon reopening, theme parks, Disney Resort hotels, restaurants, and other offerings may be modified, limited in capacity, and subject to availability or closure. Plans to support required physical distancing as well as enhanced cleaning measures, along with a number of other safety and cleanliness protocols, will be implemented as part of this planned phased reopening.

  1. Typical, Ebeneezer Chapek is squeezing as much money as he can, so here come the fees for having to park our own cars. And rental cars are damned expensive to begin with. Now they don’t even have to pay as many cast members since they won’t need the transportation employees to work.

  2. What if you are a dvc member with scheduled vacation but didnt purchase park tickets. We wanted to but by the time we were able too covid 19 closed parks. Will we be able to get park tickets during our scheduled visit.

    • Christine– Do not leave home without tickets already purchased. Call DVC immediately, and after confirming your DVC reservation, ask for help buying tickets for your scheduled trip; they will know if DVC members with existing reservations can bypass the ticket sale pause (not clear to me), or exactly how to go about being at the front of the queue for ticket sales when they are unpaused.

  3. They said they were Begining with the parks july 11th, they did not retract a july 11th date for hotels. people cannot read.

    • Just called Disney, as of today (6/15/20) the only resorts to reopen in July are the DVC properties and the Wilderness campgrounds. Everything else is closed for the foreseeable future. People with existing reservations cannot rebook.

  4. What an absolute mess and debacle this roll out is!

I may be hanging up my Mickey ears with this disaster. :(

    • Don’t cut off your ears to spite your face. Mickey has a lot of masters (County & State officials). If they don’t get this right and then there are news stories about how guests are getting infected after they visited that magical place, they’ll be shut them back down. Yes, we’re all suffering in more ways than one, however, I’m comfortable with waiting until they can hopefully provide a safest solution possible. Don’t forget, Florida and most other states are still reporting more infections and deaths everyday. It will take just a little longer until we can put our ears back on.

      • Universal Orlando Resort is opening including dining, hotels, and express passes — so Disney cannot blame anyone else fo their decision to close all restaurants, cancel all fast passes, and close all non DVC resorts for the foreseeable future.

  5. Everyone needs to stop planning vacations, for now. I was at wdw last June and the construction was unbelievable! The parks never looked so bad. I live in Florida about an hour away from the parks. So I’ve been to the parks throughout my life many times. I was there opening day at Epcot I was also there opening day at Hollywood Studios etc.
Looking back on my trip, I remember the removal of stones at Epcot, the installation of the gondolas, and the fact that every entrance to every park was under construction. The rides were not being maintained, resulting in injury and death. When we returned home I kept looking online for some type of explanation for all this. Now I feel that this was all pre-planned for social distancing and everything that goes with it.
Bob Iger dropped his position just before the outbreak. Other large companies followed suit, Tesla, Microsoft, Amazon…
Please stop worrying about your vacations. Look around and put the puzzle together.
    🙈🙉🙊LOOK CLOSER🙈🙉🙊
No, I’m not a conspiracy theorist.

  6. We have a reservation for right after the parks open, at a DVC property and as a DVC member, several throughout the fall. The lack of information regarding the reservation system is a problem, we have no idea if we will even be able to get in on the days we have our vacation for. It would be nice if they could explain the system prior to opening so everyone can understand how it works.
