PHOTOS: “it’s a small world” Reopens with Frequent Boat Cleaning, Social Distancing, and Updated Protocols at Magic Kingdom

We are back in the Magic Kingdom for reopening previews, riding our favorite rides and taking note of all the new health and safety measures across the park amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, we’re off on the happiest cruise, over at “it’s a small world”! Let’s see what’s new on the attraction experience…

Notably, an extension of the queue area for “it’s a small world” has been set up to the right of the attraction, backing on to the Tangled restroom area. This is uncovered and open, however spacious enough that guests can properly social distance as the line snakes up and down.

Inside the attraction, new floor markers have been installed to remind guests to keep their distancing as they queue.

Cast Members working the attraction are fully equipped with face masks and face shields.

The “it’s a small world” loading procedure shows one of the key changes to this attraction. Previously, guests would be given a number to stand on to correspond to their row on the attraction boat, which they would climb into as the previous guests disembark. Now, most of these rows are being left clear, to ensure parties are not packed too tightly on each cruise.

As well as this, guests are having to wait until the previous riders have completely left the boat, once again to aid social distancing. From the above photo, we can also see that cast members are taking the time to spray down a boat with sanitiser. Whilst this is not done after every sail, this is taking place very regularly to ensure guest safety, whilst still operating the ride efficiently.

Thank you for joining us on a sail around “it’s a small world”. What do you think of these new ride protocols?

Don’t forget to take a look at the new health and safety measures on other attractions in the park. Nearby, take a look at the reopening of The Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Prince Charming’s Regal Carrousel!

  1. Thank you so much for keeping us all informed about what is happening in our most favorite places on the planet! I enjoy the “important” news from you each morning with my coffee.

I notice that your site uses the term “social distancing” often. For most communications groups this has been replaced by “physical distancing”. This term is used by Disney across their signage as well. The intent being to reinforce the need for staying physically separated to reduce the spread of the virus but still encouraging community members to remaining connected socially via media and technology to maintain their mental wellness and connection to others. Thanks so much for all your amazing content! It is greatly appreciated!

  2. I’m curious about the sanitizer being sprayed on boats here and other attractions..is it still wet when guests get on and if so any risk to staining clothes? Should guests plan to wear certain types or “old” clothes when visiting the parks now to mitigate that risk?
