With the status of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover now updated to “Temporarily Unavailable” on My Disney Experience, the attraction remains closed at the Magic Kingdom, where it has yet to welcome guests since the park reopened on July 11.

We passed by the attraction today on our loop around the Magic Kingdom and saw the all-too-familiar A-frame sign stating that the PeopleMover is not operating at this time.

In addition to the PeopleMover, the Carousel of Progress is also currently closed in Tomorrowland after failing to open yesterday and today. You can read more on the attraction’s recent downtime here.

Prior to reopening, the attraction didn’t operate during Cast Member and Annual Passholder previews. The last time the attraction was open was in March, before it was closed for a week ahead of the park’s temporary shutdown.

No explanation has been given as to the ride’s extended closure. The last reported incident was a possible fire near either the attraction’s entrance/exit ramp or at The Lunching Pad nearby, though it’s unknown if that’s connected to the lengthy downtime.

  1. this might mean seasonal operation for this attraction, but that is unlikely because it has been busy before the COVID-19 closure

  2. This is how Disney closes beloved legacy rides with substantial cultish followings. See: River Country.
