“General Construction” Permit Filed for Disney’s Contemporary Resort Refurbishment, Possible Incredibles Overlay

Walt Disney World has filed a new permit for “general construction” at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The resort will have limited availability beginning April 2021 as refurbishment begins. It will last through September, but the extent of the refurbishment is not yet known.

The contractor on the permit is Hoar Construction, which has worked on New Fantasyland, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and more Walt Disney World projects.

While the limited availability means that the upcoming refurbishment will involve some rooms of the resort, we do not know if this permit is for the rooms or another area of the resort.

Disney was testing rooms inspired by The Incredibles in August 2019, so it’s possible a re-theme is still coming. But these test rooms did not last very long and there have been no updates about re-theming since then.

What are you hoping to see in a refurbishment of Disney’s Contemporary Resort? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Shoehorning the Incredibles is a better choice for the All Star Movies Resort. I only stayed at the Contemporary 2 times, and I’m highly against the re-theme.

  2. By all means, shove IP into every possible space you can! That way we can’t possibly forget we’re at Disney, staying at Disney, and spending all our money at Disney. Almost forgot!

  3. The rooms are perfectly fine, I don’t think the Incredibles would help any for the better. It’s the airport-feeling lobby that may need a bit of a facelift.

  4. I like the idea of adding a theme to the hotel rooms. I think it can be added in casually where the entire room doesn’t need to be like an all stars hotel room but a few subtle images here and there would make it more fun especially for families with kids :) it’s Disney after all!
