With the debut of the new nighttime spectacular Disney Enchantment set for October 1, it seems that more changes to the fireworks launch systems are afoot around the Magic Kingdom. We got our first hints of the show when a permit was filed for “Project Nugget” at the current fireworks launch site last summer. Now, Disney has filed permits to add what appear to be permanent perimeter launch sites.
The new launch sites are smaller than the existing site.
The 50-page permit filing addresses four sites:
- C-104: A currently-vacant plot in the floodplain of a canal
- C-101: A currently vacant plot to the left of the current launch site
- C-102: A portion of the parking lot and adjacent area at the Reedy Creek Improvement District’s Tech Services Building
- C-105: A currently-vacant plot northeast of TRON Lightcycle / Run between Center Drive and World Drive.
Let’s take a deep dive into the proposed new fireworks launch sites, from west to east.
C-104: Northwest Vacant Plot
The blueprints of C-104 show new reinforced gravel access drives and a 16’x16′ concrete pad, which will be the location for the launch tube. The sites are surrounded by chain-link fencing with barbed wire. These features are found in the plans for all four sites.
The land proposed for site C-104 is currently wetland with trees, bordering a canal.
An approximated overlay of the new site.
C-101: Current Launch Site
This site is just to the left of the current launch site, which is much larger.
C-102: Reedy Creek Improvement District Tech Services Building
The proposed site here would extend the cement parking beside the Tech Services building and create a launchpad.
The approximated overlay shows the changes to the current facilities.
C-105: Northeast Vacant Plot
This land is just northeast of the upcoming TRON Lightcycle / Run in Tomorrowland.
The new sites are likely permanent replacements for the temporary locations that would be set up for limited-time holiday shows, such as Halloween and Christmas. Enchantment will reportedly use some perimeter fireworks, as well.
