Target to Add ‘Disney Store’ Shops to 160 More US Locations

In the wake of the news of more Disney Stores closing nationwide, Target has announced its “Disney Store” shops will come to 160 more U.S. locations.

Originally announced in 2019, Target has added a dedicated Disney Store section to 65 locations across the country. Now, 160 more stores will receive the addition. The areas included expanded merchandise, including bubble wands, plush, clothing, and even select items from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

A list of stores receiving the new Disney Store Shops has yet to be announced. The Target Disney Store is also online here.

  1. I’m glad to see Target expanding the Disney Store areas to more locations!
I do miss the Disney Stores but I have to say the one that was near us (Mission Viejo, CA) was small, cramped and for some reason very dark – I think they kept it like it was suppose to be night inside. They packed it with a lot of items but because it was so tight inside it was hard to find things and on weekends it was hard not to bump into folks inside.

Still it’s too bad they Disney did not give these stores a makeover and make them larger because they always seemed to be a popular store. And for most areas of the country that are not near Disneyland or Disney World it was great to have these nearby and a great way to promote Disney Parks.

  2. I feel like Disney had a really good opportunity with Disney Stores in malls, especially with holiday shopping. Their Cast Members were great and new their IP really well, but that came at a high cost. Leasing mall space is expensive and the pandemic accelerated the exodus. My wallet is happier, though. I used to check out the changes every month because so much changed in store and really liked the in store events tied with movie or show releases. I don’t think the Target store within a store concept will match that magic, but will cost Disney less and grandparents will be able to take care of the grandkids’ wishes, just with less magic.

  3. Going to the Disney Store used to be an experience. This us just a poorly stocked section of Target with Disney branded stuff…woo flippin hoo.

  4. This is infuriating… As a past cast member who lost my job due to closures within three last couple months, this is a friggin slap in my face. We were the Disney difference. Cast members make the experience. Sure, you can sell our stuff without the labor, but you’ll never get the same feeling and magic we gave the stores. This is a friggin tragedy.

  5. Why buy new Disney toys when there’s plenty of used and collectible Disney toys available in so many thrift shops here in Orlando and elsewhere around the world? Instead of contributing to more waste, recycle! Isn’t that what Disney wants us to do anyway?

  6. I am not OK with this I just found out my two local Disney stores are closing. The target stores are not going to be the same at all. (That’s even if NC gets one cause as of right now there is NO plans to!!) I enjoy the cast members at the Disney store….let alone the actual store. Especially since we live so far from the Disney Parks.
I can assure you Target employees are NOT going to help like a cast member would. So this is just another place for Disney fans to not be able to get merchandise because it was sold out at a poorly stocked target or only able to get it online. Its just going to make trying to get certain merchandise so much harder for Disney fans to obtain certain items. (next to impossible for pin collectors.)
Thanks….way to care about the customer and your employees. Complete and total BS. I don’t think I have ever been mad at WDW but I actually am right now.
If some of the stores were doing that bad they could have remodeled or tried to get more customers in with something.

    • You know one of the worst parts? It was never about the stores doing badly. In fact, my store was doing great. This is a tactic to just get rid of cast-filled stores and, you’re absolutely right, it’s a tragedy. I hope they see how stupid this is…

  7. Way to screw over fans and collectors, unless you’re into Disney branded bubble wands, I guess.

  8. I been to Revere Target store. It has everything similar to The Disney Store. It has plushies, Merchandise, and and it has video screen that runs Disney clips and trailers like the Disney Store. I kinda reminds me of the Disney Store we used to have at the Square One Mall in Revere Massachusetts. It’s nice to have magic at a Target store in Revere since Square One Mall closed their actual Disney Store in 2017.
