Many Lightning Lane Selections Selling Out Early at Walt Disney World During Thanksgiving Week

As we get into the holiday week, many Lightning Lane selections (both individual and through Genie+) are selling out quickly throughout Walt Disney World.

Tuesday at the Magic Kingdom, Lightning Lane selections for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train were gone by 9:00 a.m., one hour after the park opened. When we checked again at 11:40 a.m., Lightning Lane was no longer available for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Jungle Cruise.

On Wednesday, individual selections were more available, with morning and early afternoon return times available for Space Mountain and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at park opening.

At EPCOT, Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and Test Track had no more Lightning Lane options on Tuesday by 11:40 a.m. At 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Lightning Lane was on the verge of selling out, with only late afternoon and evening timeslots were available for these attractions.

Of course, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance went quickly at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Tuesday, as did Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. By 11:40 a.m., Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Lightning Lanes were all unavailable as well. Slinky Dog Dash sold out by noon. The following day, Rise of the Resistance reservations were completely unavailable around 7:30 a.m.

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Avatar Flight of Passage, Na’vi River Journey, and Kilimanjaro Safaris Lightning Lanes were all gone by 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday. They went even quicker on Wednesday, with reservations for Avatar Flight of Passage gone by 8:30 a.m.

We expect that over the next few days, including Thanksgiving, Lightning Lane selections will continue to go quickly. This pattern will probably repeat the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s.

  1. Hmmmm. Paying $15/day for a service to skip lines and then finding out the passes are sold out for all the popular rides sounds like something that will cause the wealthy to revolt. Bob Cheapskate thinks he’s unpopular now; let’s see how popular he is after the Christmas crowds.

  2. How does this “sell out” compare to when FP+ was available? I don’t remember attractions selling out as easily but perhaps this is due to still limited capacity?

  3. I thought Disney said they would not run out of Lightning Lanes, when they first peddled Genie+ to customers.
