Attempts to fix the orange pillars on the “Wonders of Xandar” pavilion in EPCOT have started anew.
The pillars on the side of what was once the Universe of Energy pavilion were painted orange early on in the construction of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. The building behind the pillars is black.
“Touch-ups” have been done near the top of the pillars on the left side (when facing the front of the building).
It’s unclear if these areas were damaged, but whatever work was done has left the areas looking rough.
The layer of orange paint that has been most recently added is splotchy and mismatched.
Different shades have been applied in several areas.
This almost looks like a wound in the building.
This new paint left streaks down to the ground on the front pillar.
That large mismatched area is visible from the other side of the construction site, too.
Meanwhile, the pillars on the right side of the building remain partially painted dark grey.
The new landscaping blocks the view, but some of the grey paint can be seen on the bottom half of the fourth orange pillar.
These pillars began to be repainted in July, along with alien symbols, but it seems that update was abandoned in favor of the orange.
An original piece of concept art for the building shows the pillars as a futuristic grey.
This concept for the pillars more closely resembles the July repaint.
More recent concept art — which was even used for the announcement that the ride would open in 2022 — shows the orange pillars. This concept art doesn’t appear to be completely accurate to the final product, either, however, as the building still doesn’t have the three entrances pictured behind the Xandarian ship. It’s not unusual for projects to change in the process between concept art and actualization.
