Mickey’s PhilharMagic to Undergo Extended Refurbishment at Tokyo Disneyland, May Add ‘Coco’ Scene

Earlier this year, Mickey’s PhilharMagic at the Magic Kingdom went under refurbishment for around a month to perform some technical upgrades along with the addition of the new scene themed to Pixar’s “Coco”. Now, a quiet addition to the Tokyo Disney Resort refurbishment calendar has revealed that a long renovation is coming next year to the attraction at Tokyo Disneyland, potentially with similar changes.

Currently, the original version of the film plays at Tokyo Disneyland, in Japanese of course. While no confirmation has been made by the Oriental Land Company as of yet, it’s possible that this extended refurbishment, the first of its kind since the attraction opened in 2011, could bring improvements recently added to Walt Disney World’s version, such as a digital projection system, in addition to the new scene from “Coco”.

The change was spotted on the Tokyo Disneyland refurbishment calendar, which lists Mickey’s PhilharMagic down from July 4 through September 13, 2022, a period of over two months. For contrast, the Magic Kingdom’s version was closed for only one month.

We look forward to hearing more about whether “Coco” is also coming to the Japanese version of Mickey’s PhilharMagic. If it’s true, the Oriental Land Company will likely announce it sometime before the attraction’s renovation is completed in September of 2022. Stay tuned to WDW News Today as this story develops.

  1. and i wonder if this improvement of Tokyo Disneyland’s Mickey’s PhilharMagic will have rerecorded dialogue for Mickey, Minnie and Goofy from their new japanese voice actors.
