REVIEW: New Dinner Menu from Space 220 at EPCOT Fails to Maintain Stellar Standards

Space 220 Restaurant, which opened last fall at EPCOT, has an updated menu for the spring. Earlier, we tried the new lunch menu, and now, we’re back to try some new dinner options.

Interior

space 220 10

Inside the lobby, we prepared to board the Stellarvator to the restaurant.

The views are still incredible.

Menu

The following items have been removed from the menu: Bluehouse salmon, flat iron steak, roasted free-range chicken, baked maccheroni, galactic lobster globe, and Brussels sprouts.

The three-course dinner is $79 per adult.

The following items were added: steak salad, quinoa burger, steak and frites, supreme chicken breast, spaceghetti and shrimp, roasted carrots, and galactic salmon.

New cocktails include the Celestian Cosmopolitan, Orion Old Fashion, Stratosphere Strawberry Lemonade, The Big Tang, The Nebula, and Atmospritz. Chardonnay Rombauer Vineyards, Sauvignon Blanc Duckhorn, and Tempranillo Camp Viejo have been added to the wines list.

Lift Offs (Appetizers)

Centauri Caesar Salad

Miniature Romaine, Classic Caesar Dressing, Parmigiano Reggiano

Ceasar salad space 220 1

This choice offers diners a nice portion of a hearty salad. The anchovy flavor is strong here, and either the lettuce or the dressing imparts a bitter taste.

Ceasar salad space 220 2

It’s a decent presentation, but we can’t get over the bitterness.

Big Bang Burrata

Burrata di Mozzarella, Grilled Artichoke Hearts, Arugula, Sunflower Seed Romesco

burratta space 220 1

This “safe,” simple dish is just cheese and arugula.

burratta space 220 2

It may not shine, but it is a decent offering that we’d recommend sharing. The artichoke hearts taste fresh.

Neptune Tartare

Yellowfin Tuna, Yuzu Ginger Miso, Soy, Avocado, Raddish, Mango Coulis, Micro Greens, Sesame Crackers

tuna tartare space 220 2

The tuna tartare was slightly salty. While there wasn’t a wow factor here, the fish was nice and fresh.

tuna tartare space 220 1

It’s a decent light offering if that’s what you prefer.

Space Greens

Bibb Lettuce, Compressed Watermelon, Spiced Pecans, Apple Cider Dressing

This is one of the dishes that has been updated with seasonal ingredients. The watermelon is a suitable replacement for the cranberries and roasted pears.

The pecans are slightly spiced.

The apple cider vinaigrette dressing adds a tartness and acidity for an overall refreshing salad. This salad was a good choice for a starter.

We also had the Starry Calamari and the Blue Moon Cauliflower at lunch today, which were unchanged.

Star Course (Entrées)

The Supreme Chicken Breast is a new item, and the Galactic Salmon replaces the Bluehouse Salmon.

Space Glazed Duck Breast

Fried Jasmin Rice, Asparagus, Pineapple, Orange Hoisin Sauce

space 220 duck 1

The Space Glazed Duck Breast was a little fatty but well- seasoned and tender.

space 220 duck 4

The sweet glaze was enjoyable.

space 220 duck 3

The fried rice tastes fresh and has a hint of sweetness, possibly from the glaze seeping underneath it.

space 220 duck 2

The asparagus is grilled, cooked well, and seasoned. This was one of the best dishes we tried.

8oz Filet Mignon

Creamy Mash Potatoes, Haricot Vert, Carrots, Red Wine Reduction.

filet space 220 4

We ordered our filet at medium temperature. It was a fine, tender cut of steak.

filet space 220 1

Mashed potatoes are standard and come salted and buttered.

filet space 220 5

The vegetables are cooked well. Overall, a safe but well-executed dish.

Supreme Chicken Breast

Seared Chicken Breast, Polenta Parmesan Cake, Petite Balsamic Lentils, Basil Oil

chicken space 220 3
chicken space 220 5

The skin was thick and tough, but the chicken itself was decent.

chicken space 220 2

It could use more salt. We found the slightly chalky cake off-putting.

chicken space 220 1

The lentils don’t do much here. We wouldn’t recommend this particular dish.

Florida Red Snapper

Pan Seared Red Snapper, Fennel Barigoule, Potato Stew

florida red snapper 1

The fish is flaky, tender, and fresh but has little flavor or seasoning.

florida red snapper 4

The straws are crispy, and the tomato is the prominent seasoning as the fish has none.

florida red snapper 3

The sauce is similar to an Italian tomato sauce.

Supernova Sweets (Desserts)

Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake and Lemon Mousse are no longer on the dessert menu.

Coconut Panna Cotta

Coconut Cream, Citrus, Lychee, Raspberries, Coconut Meringue, Toasted Coconut

panna cotta space 220 new dinner menu 2

The coconut panna cotta was a liquid consistency but still pretty light and refreshing.

panna cotta space 220 new dinner menu 1

The coconut, basil, and fresh additions are nice.

panna cotta space 220 new dinner menu 3

The coconut meringue straws were light and crispy. We’d recommend

Short Cake

Matcha Air Cake, Mascarpone Mousse, Strawberries

shortcake space 220 new dinner menu 1

It was sweet and light but more of a cheesecake consistency. The strawberries and compote are potent but in a good way. The matcha cake was an excellent textured element.

shortcake space 220 new dinner menu 3

This was the winner of the meal by far. We all enjoyed this and highly recommend it.

Chocolate Cheesecake

Whipped Chocolate Ganache, Chocolate Sauce, White Chocolate Crunchy Pearls, Cookie Crumbs, Dark Chocolate Shards

This decadent chocolate cheesecake would please a chocolate lover.

This dessert is nothing too unique but is still a good staple. The white chocolate pearls add a bit of sweetness.

This dessert would be a good one to share.

Lemon Sorbet

After a potentially heavy meal, this light, tart, tangy sorbet is a refreshing option. It’s basic but works well as a palette cleanser.

Cocktails

Orion Old Fashioned – $17

Buffalo Trace, Grand Marnier, Chocolate Bitters

old fashioned space 220 drink 1

This was a basic Old Fashioned with a hint of citrus.

old fashioned space 220 drink 2

We found this drink forgettable.

Stratosphere Strawberry Lemonade – $16

Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Cointreau, Thyme Simple Syrup, Strawberry, Fresh Lemon Juice

strawberry lemonade space 220

This cocktail tasted like fresh strawberry lemonade, perfect for the upcoming summer season. The rim is sugared.

If you like fresh drinks where the alcohol doesn’t overpower the beverage, we recommend this one.

Espresso Martini – $14.00

Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Tuaca, Chilled Espresso, House Made Whipped Cream Float, and Dark Chocolate Shavings

espresso martini 2

The initial espresso taste is robust here, followed by the vodka.

It was nice and creamy. This was a decent espresso martini.

Lunar Eclipse – $14

House Made Whipped Cream infused with Maker’s Mark Bourbon, finished table side with a Double Shot of Espresso

lunar eclipse 1

This martini tastes like an espresso con Panna.

Espresso is the intense flavor here, but the whipped cream is fresh.

Launch Pad – $17

Buffalo Trace Bourbon, House Made Caramel Sauce, Espresso, Steamed Milk, and Baking Spices Topped with Whipped Cream

launch pad 1

The bourbon is robust. It warms you from the inside out.

launch pad 3

The espresso and bourbon pair together really nicely with the spices. Everything was balanced.

This warm drink was our favorite.

Overall

Essentially we felt the quality has declined since Space 220 first opened. It’s cool to take a ride on the Stellarvator to space, but we recommend the lounge instead. We had a lot of decent options but nothing that was indeed stellar, aside from the shortcake.

  1. Menu is terrible, they should just make the lounge menu available for the regular restaurant. None of the apps sound appealing to me.

  2. The presentation for the lobster salad was the most themed dish they had and it’s so strange they would take that away without adding another equally thematically presented dish.
