Work began on repainting the Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom earlier this month, meaning some pathways around the tree are now closed.
Over 300 animals are carved into the tree, reflecting Earth’s varied biodiversity.
Most of the work is set to take place after operating hours, so it’s unlikely guests will witness the painting underway, though in-progress work may be visible.
The tree is painted with different shades of brown and gray to give an even more dimensional feel to the carvings.
Insects and spiders carved near the bottom of the tree are a nod to It’s Tough to Be a Bug! inside.
The trail near the otter exhibit is now roped off.
The sign says “This trail is currently under refurbishment and provides no exit.”
Not all the trails are unavailable though. This one around the back of the tree is open, as are the entrance and exit of It’s Tough to Be a Bug!
Some areas of the tree are especially faded or dirty, so need extra work.
There are white splotches across these giant roots.
There are also streaks down the rockwork.
It seems the back of the tree may need more work than the front.
Disney has not announced an end date for the Tree of Life refurbishment.
We didn’t see crew members out during the day, but we could see where they were working near the flamingo exhibit.
A net covered some construction materials.
The tree serves as the centerpiece of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Recently, it served as the home to the holiday version of “Tree of Life Awakenings” projection show, as well as a special edition themed to “Avatar: The Way of Water.”
