The eye of the audio-animatronic Flik is unfortunately broken in It’s Tough To Be a Bug! at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

During the show, Flik pops out of the ceiling. His left eye is stuck with the pupil under his eyelid, so only a blank white section is looking out over the audience.

The issue comes at a bad time, considering Disney’s Animal Kingdom is celebrating its 25th anniversary today. Outside the attraction, Flik and Atta are appearing for limited-time meet and greets for the 25th anniversary celebration.

It’s Tough To Be a Bug!

It’s Tough To Be a Bug! was an opening day attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 1998, debuting before “A Bug’s Life” hit theaters later that year. The show’s theater is located inside the Tree of Life, the icon of the park. Dave Foley reprises his role as Flik while Andrew Stanton, co-director of the original film, plays villain Hopper as Kevin Spacey declined to return for any promotional or other materials related to the film. Cheech Marin, French Stewart, Tom Kenny, and Jason Alexander also play roles as Chili the tarantula, the Termite-ator, the Dung Beetle Brothers, and Weevil Kneevil respectively. Kevin Rafferty and George Wilkins co-wrote the attraction’s theme song, while Bruce Broughton composed the score.

The show was also part of A Bug’s Land at Disney California Adventure from 2001 to the land’s closure in 2018. A Bug’s Land was replaced by Marvel Avengers Campus, but guests can still see the land sometimes as Ant-Man and The Wasp carry around a shrunken version of it. The show building was expanded upon and reused as part of WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure.
