Aesthetic changes have recently been made to the area surrounding Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at Disneyland Hotel, as glass panel fencing has been installed around the venue’s exterior seating area. The new contemporary glass panels replace the former grid-like fences that previously surrounded the patio; the old fences are still present in a few areas.
New Fencing at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar
Fences and scrim were added outside of Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar in mid-September, indicating that changes to the perimeter fencing would soon be made. Many assumed that the glass panel fencing that debuted outside the Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill patio earlier in the month would be replicated at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar, and now that the first pieces of the new fence have been revealed, it’s clear that this is the case.
The rectangular glass panels are connected by sleek dark posts. The panels contain no top rail but are joined at their base by a bottom rail that matches the posts in hue.
Some of the posts are angled and contain arrowhead-like caps; these are a holdover from the previous fence.
The glass panel fence adds a more modern aesthetic and vibe to the traditional tiki bar. Work is not yet complete, this indicated by the presence of — and recent addition of more — scrim-covered fences where the previous fence still stands.
The bar has remained open while exterior work has progressed. Though it’s still open, a number of tables and seating areas are temporarily unavailable due to the construction.
Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar
Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar opened at Disneyland Hotel in 2011 and promptly became a popular destination for specialty cocktails and a quick bite to eat. Deriving its name from a character from the Jungle Cruise attraction, the venue is rich in theming and quality beverages, and thus, guests often face long wait times in order to enjoy the experience. The bar received an East Coast counterpart, of sorts, when Trader Sam’s Grog Gotto opened at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World in 2015. Though aesthetically different in theming, the venues contain similar menus.
The well-realized tiki theming plays a large role in Trader Sam’s popularity. Merchandise based on and inspired by the bar has long been sold at Disney parks; mugs styled after the venue’s most popular cocktails have been sold in the past, and a woven handbag featuring the HippopotoMai-Tai cocktail mug debuted at Disneyland Resort in August. A line of Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar clothing was spotted at Disney’s Fantasia Shop in July, and the beloved Hatbox Ghost from the Haunted Mansion recently received a tiki-style makeover for a mug of his own. The release of the Hatbox Ghost Tiki Mug prompted an hours-long wait for those who wanted to take that ghost home with them.
