Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn, the second chapter of the new trading card game, was released via big box stores today, December 1, 2023. Yesterday, Amazon announced they would use a virtual queue for the release. The virtual queue was supposed to open at 9 a.m. PST / 12 p.m. EST, but it took an hour and a half for the virtual queue to open for all three products available.
Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn Amazon Virtual Queue
Amazon has the two Rise of the Floodborn starter decks and booster pack display available with the virtual queue. Users hoping to purchase any products must request an invite for each individual item. This puts them in a lottery system to be randomly selected.
By 12:30 p.m., invitation requests were only open for the Amethyst/Steel starter deck. Requests opened for the Amber/Sapphire starter deck 15 minutes later.
It wasn’t until 1:30 p.m. EST that the booster pack display (with 24 booster packs inside) became available.
As of writing, users can still request to join all three virtual queues by visiting Amazon’s Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn page.
After the queue is closed, those randomly selected to purchase product will receive an email invitation. They will then have 72 hours to make their purchase. If they don’t make a purchase in that window, the spot will be given to another randomly selected person.
Those who aren’t selected during this round of invites will still be eligible for selection in future rounds, so hopeful buyers won’t have to submit another request. Amazon has also stated that since supplies are limited, they will not be able to grant all requests to purchase.
Ravensburger, creators of Disney Lorcana, are also trying to curb difficulties with this release. They announced on Thursday afternoon that they would not release Rise of the Floodborn products in their online store in Europe or the UK.
When Rise of the Floodborn pre-sales first launched on the Ravensburger online store on November 20, an “extremely large” distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on the website caused major issues. When the website was available again, most Rise of the Floodborn products were listed as “only available in stores,” while a few would be available online on December 1.
There were also difficulties with the game’s initial release in August. After a dangerous situation on the opening day of Gen Con 2023, there was extremely limited stock of Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter products when released later that month, leading to scarce shelves, price gouging, and an inflated resale market. Ravensburger promptly announced intentions to issue a reprint in late 2023 to increase supply.
Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn was released at specialty stores and Disney Parks on November 17.
