There are a number of projects happening right now at Disney’s BoardWalk, including major construction and new dining options. Read on to get a glimpse of the latest happenings at the EPCOT Resort Area location.
The Cake Bake Shop
Since our last look, decking has been installed on the roofs of The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers. The walls and dormer roofs are mostly covered in purple weather-proof sheathing. There are several openings in the walls which will be large windows.
There’s a square steel archway at what will be the table-service restaurant’s main entrance. There also isn’t decking on the edge of the roof behind the archway.
The Cake Bake Shop will also include a bakery with an entrance to the right.
The Cake Bake Shop is taking over the former ESPN Club, which permanently closed in 2022. The Cake Bake Shop is using the same basic structure but walls and roofing were all demolished to be rebuilt.
We could see two crew members working inside. There is no paneling on the interior walls.
The Cake Bake Shop was originally scheduled to open in 2023 but was delayed to 2024. In December, Rogers began hiring for the restaurant.
Bundles of electrical wiring run behind the steel frame of the bakery entrance.
Blue Ribbon Corn Dog
The future Blue Ribbon Corn Dog stand has seen a major transformation recently. The sign for the location’s former occupant, BoardWalk To Go, has been removed, and a new pastel yellow and blue color scheme has been painted on the exterior of the building.
For reference, here’s a look at what the stand looked like in late December 2023, prior to this update.
During our visit, construction members were on site painting the building.
Exposed wires could be seen on the right side of the building.
Originally set to open in 2023, the Blue Ribbon Corn Dog opening was pushed back to a broad “2024” in November of last year.
The menu is set to include both favorites from the Disneyland Resort location, and some new options. So far, the announced items are Mexican street corn dog, pickle dog, lemonade, strawberry lemonade, and fresh spun cotton candy.
First Food Truck Arrives at Disney’s BoardWalk
The first of the food trucks announced to offset the closing of Big River Grille & Brewing Works has arrived at the BoardWalk. Parked to the left of Jellyrolls, App’s Food Truck offers a number of grab-and-go options.
There are food offerings for both picky and adventurous eaters. The Columbian-American style menu includes:
- Tostones
- Arepa Con Chorizo
- Arepa Con Pollo
- Apps Dog
- Chorizo Burger
- Tender Burger
- Apps Burger
- Colombian Burger
- Empanadas
- Maizito Salad
- Grilled Chicken Wrap
- Pucha
- Quesadilla
- Salchippas
- Grilled Cheese
- Chicken Tenders
A sign outside of the food truck noted it would be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Other Construction
Elsewhere on the BoardWalk, a team member was replacing a board with a new plank of wood.
The sign for Big River Grille & Brewing Works, which officially closed its doors on January 22, 2024, has been removed. So far, no replacement for the space has been announced. Disney did not give a reason for Big River’s closing.
Finally, Disney Vacation Club tours are once again open at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. The DVC showroom closed in November of 2023 due to the construction being done in the Disney Vacation Club villas at the resort.
