Anthony Daniels Filmed C-3PO Scene for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Before It Closed

C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels revealed at MegaCon in Orlando that he had actually filmed something for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser before the hotel ultimately closed.

Was C-3PO Almost Part of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser?

On Friday, February 2, Daniels hosted “I Am C-3PO: Meet Anthony Daniels.” During the event, he said of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, “Curiously, I was going to be in that hotel. I had shot a scene using motion capture. It was brilliant, but then of course they closed the hotel.” (via Popverse)

Daniels didn’t elaborate and added that Lucasfilm wouldn’t want him to spoil anything, even something that was canceled. It’s always possible the footage could still be used in some way.

Daniels also didn’t specify when he filmed the footage — whether it was while Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was operating or before it even opened. C-3PO could have been part of early plans for the hotel that were scrapped.

It’s also possible that C-3PO could have been included in Disney Imagineers’ plans to update the experience. In May 2023, reports indicated that Imagineers were working on a revamped Gaya dinner show, new merchandise, and new spiels for the bartenders at the Sublight Lounge — in that same week, Walt Disney World announced the hotel’s surprise permanent closure.

In January 2022, Daniels shared a photo on Instagram of himself at Ealing Studios in London in a new motion capture suit. Tagged with #c3po, this was posted just a few months before Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser opened. The Imaginarium team at Ealing Studios also shared a photo with R2-D2 in November 2021. Daniels also addressed the upcoming additions to Star Tours at Disneyland, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disneyland Paris. C-3PO is the host of the ride and Daniels called this the “second-best job” he’s ever done, behind only Star Wars: In Concert. Daniels was more tight-lipped about Star Tours than Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, neither confirming nor denying doing any work for the new scenes, just saying, “No spoilers.”

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was an immersive hotel with choose-your-own adventure-style storylines and original characters. It opened on March 1, 2022, and closed permanently on September 30, 2023, after low occupancy and little profit. In October, some of the hotel’s final guests received a survey about their experience implying it could be resurrected in some way.

Daniels has portrayed C-3PO since the first “Star Wars” film. He has appeared in most “Star Wars” media including all nine Skywalker Saga films, “Rogue One,” “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” and most recently “Ahsoka.”
