A video playing at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event this weekend gives guests a sneak peek at the Haunted Mansion Parlor coming to Disney Cruise Line’s Treasure and Destiny ships.
Haunted Mansion Parlor Sneak Peek
Watch the video in our embedded X post and keep reading for more information.
Haunted Mansion Parlor will be located off the Grand Hall of the ships, where Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge is located on the Disney Wish. As the video shows in an artist rendering, guests will enter through an alcove featuring ghostly portraits straight out of the Haunted Mansion, as well as a Haunted Mansion Parlor sign.
The video includes looks at the creation of the parlor’s moving and changing artwork, inspired by the ride’s iconic portrait gallery.
This is our first look at a new piece that appears to be inspired by the sea god Poseidon or his son, Triton. It does resemble Triton’s appearance from “The Little Mermaid,” although with legs instead of a mer-tail. He has the same white beard, three-pointed crown, and trident. He rides a giant seahorse.
With a crack of lightning, the man and his seahorse become skeletons.
Another piece depicts a ship with tattered sails caught in a storm.
This piece depicts the Parlor’s original Captain character, who died following a dinner with his fiancée. According to previously released lore, the Captain’s “lifelong dream of serving on a luxury ocean liner was cut short after his untimely demise, but his merry soul has lingered on in his private parlor.” Disney Cruise Line previously released the before and after of this portrait featuring the Captain in his living form and then as a skeleton.
In the video, the skeletal Captain nods his head, moves his eyes, and opens his mouth, indicating he may be able to talk to guests.
One of the Haunted Mansion Parlor’s unique decorations will be the “Aquarium with Ghost Fish” originally designed by Imagineer Rolly Crump for the Museum of the Weird. The attraction never came to be but some of Crump’s designs were incorporated into the Haunted Mansion. More will come to life in the Haunted Mansion Parlor, alongside a bust of Crump.
The above screenshot shows the aquarium before receiving all of its set dressing. Bubbles float up from the bottom and skeletal fish swim inside.
In the above screenshot, you can see one such fish.
Another series of clips shows the completed aquarium with metallic edges and a chain. It also has fresh green algae on its glass.
The fish are more clear in the finished aquarium. They seem to glow blue as they swim together.
The Disney Treasure sets off on its maiden voyage this December, while the Disney Destiny will launch in 2025. Check out more Haunted Mansion Parlor artwork and props on display at D23, and our first look at Haunted Mansion Parlor cast costumes.
