A video at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event provides a first look at an ofrenda that will be on display in Plaza de Coco, a “Coco”-themed restaurant on Disney Cruise Line’s new Disney Treasure.
Plaza de Coco Ofrenda
The real-life ofrenda is straight out of the Rivera home in Pixar’s “Coco.” Marigolds are placed in an archway over portraits of Miguel’s ancestors. In front of the altar are pots and baskets of more marigolds, as well as a basket of fruit and bread.
The portraits include the one of Mama Coco seen at the end of the film, surrounded by candles.
Mama Imelda, Héctor, and young Coco are also pictured in their famous torn portrait. Other props include skeletons, shoes, and a guitar made of paper flowers.
The video included clips of Cast Members arranging the props on the ofrenda. Plaza de Coco on the Disney Treasure will have a theater-in-the-round dining room, taking the space held by Arendelle — A Frozen Dining Adventure on the Disney Wish. During a meal of Mexican cuisine “with a modern twist,” guests will enjoy live entertainment from a Mariachi band, Miguel, and his family.
The restaurant will have two shows performed on different nights of the sailing:
On the first night, the story of Miguel and his familia will continue where it left off on screen as they gather in Mariachi Plaza to take guests on a colorful, music-filled journey that celebrates family memories and togetherness. On the second night, Miguel will reunite with his great-great grandparents, Hector and Mama Imelda, by transporting them to Santa Cecilia with the help of his magic guitar for a Día de los Muertos celebration.
