Crews have installed more concrete bases and track supports for the Fast and Furious Hollywood Drift roller-coaster at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Fast and Furious Hollywood Drift Construction
Looking up at Universal Studios Hollywood, guests can see several black steel supports slanted toward each other on the hillside. At the top of the hill is the framework of a rectangular structure. A crane towers over the construction site.
The new Fast and Furious ride will go up and down the Universal Studios Hollywood mountainside. Guests will board and unload on the Upper Lot.
Since our May construction update, more track pieces have been installed on the Upper Lot. One section curves over a concrete platform with temporary wood railings.
The track goes through the rectangular framework. There are also several vertical poles that reach higher than the current track.
There is scaffolding at one end of the rectangular framework. More scaffolding is next to another concrete platform.
The tracks come to abrupt ends in this area.
The coaster was in the rumor mill for over a year before Universal confirmed it was under construction. The name was officially announced this year, along with the opening timeframe of 2026.
From the first landing of the Universal Studios Hollywood elevators, we could see several concrete bases on the hillside. They’re below a series of concrete walls and above a road.
A couple of caissons were in the process of forming more concrete.
The crane and many of the black slanted supports we saw in our first photo are on the other side of the road. No track has been installed on these supports yet. More round concrete bases for future supports are next to another road.
Fast and Furious Hollywood Drift will have a state-of-the-art ride system allowing the vehicles to rotate 360 degrees, mimicking drifting cars. It will be Universal Studios Hollywood’s first high-speed outdoor roller coaster. Neighboring property owners were concerned about the coaster’s noise level, which led Universal to test coaster audio in 2023. The ride’s queue will be designed to look like a large brick garage. The ride vehicles will be modeled after cars featured in the “Fast & Furious” films.
