David Lynch Dies at 78
Director and visionary artist David Lynch has died at 78 years old, according to Variety. He is most notably known for his film and television works, including “Twin Peaks” and films such as “Blue Velvet,” “Lost Highway” and “Mulholland Drive.”
His influence can be found across visual mediums, inspiring not only television and film, but a number of video games as well.
Lynch was a four-time Oscar nominee and received an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement in 2020.
He spent years as a painter and a maker of short animated and live-action films before his 1977 feature debut “Eraserhead.”
Lynch was hired by Mel Brooks’ production company to write and direct “The Elephant Man.” The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards including Lynch’s first for best director.
In 1999, Lynch’s film “The Straight Story” was released by Walt Disney Pictures, and is available to watch now on Disney+. It tells the story of a 73-year-old man who takes a six-week trip on his riding lawn mower to mend his relationship with his older brother who is ill.
