The full Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye pre-show has been restored at Disneyland Park after five years.

Indiana Jones Adventure Pre-Show Restored

The full pre-show has not played at the Disneyland ride since it reopened in 2021 following the resort’s COVID-19 shutdown. Physical distancing requirements limited how much time guests spent in the pre-show room, so the video was shortened to include only necessary safety information. It’s a flickering black-and-white film presented via projection in one of the last rooms before boarding.

The pre-show, penned by George Lucas, features John Rhys-Davies as Indy’s friend Sallah, who has been conducting temple tours. He gives the safety spiel, telling guests where to store their loose items and other important information.

Sallah warns guests not to look into the Eyes of Mara once they enter the temple.

Between the safety spiel, “Eye on the Globe” newsreels reveal the history of the Temple of the Forbidden Eye and its discovery by Indiana Jones is revealed. The “Eye on the Globe” intro shot featuring a person with a camera is also featured in the cinema scene of Spaceship Earth at EPCOT.

Guests learn that one year earlier, Indiana Jones discovered the temple, which contains the Chamber of Destiny. Here, an ancient idol promises special gifts to any who enter — as long as they don’t look into the Eyes of Mara.

Since then, tourists have flocked to the temple in search of youth and riches. However, some tourists have disappeared after entering the temple.

Indy returns to the temple and ventures inside to find out what happened. One week later, he has yet to emerge.

Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye opened at Disneyland in 1995. A second version of the ride, Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull, opened with Tokyo DisneySea in 2001. The Tokyo version has a slightly different setting and story but an identical ride track. DINOSAUR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom (originally Countdown to Extinction) also features a nearly identical ride track. After this year, it will be rethemed to a third version of the Indiana Jones attraction.
