The official trailer has been released for “Stolen Kingdom,” a documentary about urban explorers at Walt Disney World and the theft of the Audio-Animatronic Buzzy from EPCOT.
‘Stolen Kingdom’ Documentary
According to The Wrap, “Stolen Kingdom” was originally announced in 2022 and is a documentary about urban explorers, particularly the infamous story of the animatronic that went missing from an abandoned attraction at EPCOT.
The documentary was produced by White Lake Productions and Bright Sun Films along with Slater Wayne, Sam Fraser, and Brandon Pickering. Matthew Serrano, a regular contributor to the Defunctland YouTube channel, helped to write the film alongside Joshua Bailey, who directed and produced the film.
The upcoming documentary “delves into the history of mischief, scandal, and theft at Walt Disney World, ultimately leading to the theft of an animatronic valued at nearly half a million dollars.”
The animatronic in reference is Buzzy, who went missing from the abandoned Cranium Command attraction at EPCOT in 2018. Buzzy was the star of the former attraction and helped to navigate the daily struggles of a young boy from inside his head.
Soon after the animatronic was reported missing, former Cast Member Patrick Spikes was arrested for stealing thousands of dollars worth of Disney property, including Haunted Mansion clothing. It was later discovered that NBA player Robin Lopez purchased Buzzy’s clothing from Spikes, but the animatronic remains missing.
The Wrap also states that the film “features key figures from the park’s underground community, each sharing their unique stories. As the narrative unfolds, early pranks and antis are shown to have inspired more recent crimes, culminating in a true crime mystery. What begins as a tale of friendship and passion ends with one lingering question: Who stole Buzzy?”
How Bowers, known from the Retro WDW Podcast and Lake Buena Vista Historical Society, mentions during the trailer that if Buzzy truly was stolen, it was “the ‘Oceans Eleven’ of Walt Disney World.”
“Stolen Kingdom” will be shown at the 22nd Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Missoula, Montana that takes place from February 14 to February 23, 2025. It will also be shown at the Slamdance Film Festival in Los Angeles, California from February 20 to February 26, 2025.
