Universal may be close to finishing repairs on the outdoor section of the Skull Island: Reign of Kong attraction in Universal Islands of Adventure, as the scrims surrounding the entrance have finally been removed.
Skull Island: Reign of Kong

We previously reported in November 2024 that tan scrims had been installed around the outdoor section near the entrance for Skull Island: Reign of Kong. The scrims ran behind the fence lining the left side of the attraction, blocking it completely from guest view.

While not confirmed by Universal, the construction is believed to be related to the giant temple doors on this side of the building, which have not operated properly since early 2023. The truck-shaped ride vehicles for the Skull Island attraction used to drive through the temple doors and around this outdoor area before heading back inside. However, the vehicles have been completely skipping the outdoor section and bypassing the doors since 2023.

For context, above is an image taken in November when the scrims were still in place. The normal netting in this area is much thinner, allowing guests to see the outdoor section through the mesh.

According to Universal Team Members placed near the attraction, testing has been taking place in the outdoor section periodically, but the trucks are still not running outside. The doors were not operating when we checked. Universal has made no official statements about whether the outdoor section will soon be returning.
If you want to see the attraction’s current state, we have a full ride POV video taken when the ride reverted from 3D to 2D in early 2024. During this video, you can see where the trucks move past the doors without going through them.
